Look who's back behind the camera after a gap of more than seven years. It’s Virinchi Varma who made delectable movies like Uyyala Jampala and Majnu. His next is Jithender Reddy, featuring Rakesh Varre, and its glimpse was unveiled at an event in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Approximately a minute in length, the glimpse opens with a motley of men walking somewhere with weapons in hands, while simultaneously Virinchi shows the loss of young teens' lives. Enters Jithender Reddy, our protagonist, who gets a heroic introduction as he pins some men down to the ground, cutting a stern face. Cut to his flashback. His dad (played by Subbaraju) tells him this: “You should awaken a generation with your rebellion.” As people rally behind him, he becomes their messiah, soon commanding a number of followers. While Virinchi chooses not to reveal much in terms of the plot, there’s a naxal element integrated into the narrative, while Reddy’s college portions seem to also form a major part of the narrative. It ends with Reddy saying to someone, “Mimalni kshaminchadam ahimsa kadhu, adharmam,” (to forgive you people is not ahimsa, but adharma) before shooting them.

In conclusion, the glimpse is super engaging and promises to paint the daring journey of a leader who faces many obstacles in his career while serving the people. Gnana Sekhar’s camerawork, especially his long shots are spectacular, as he effectively manages to transport viewers back to ‘80s period, while Varre seems to have breathed life into the titular character. The background score (Gopi Sunder) is arresting and adds to the intensity of the glimpse.

Jithender Reddy arrives in cinemas on May 3rd.
