Review

Story
Surya (Suhas) meets with a tragic accident in which he loses his parents. He also loses his ability to identify faces and voices. His friend (Harsha Chemudu) is the only guy who knows Surya’s health condition. He witnesses a murder case. But he can't go to the police as he can't identify the face of the killer. He tries to inform police from a public phone booth. Rest of the story is about how he saves himself when he is wrongly framed.

Artists Performance

Suhas should be commended for choosing a different subject. It’s very important for the actor to look vulnerable on the screen. He perfectly matches his acting with the characterisation. Payal Radhakrishna looks good. Rashi Singh has done a vital role and she justifies it. Harsha Chemudu plays an important role and he is good as usual. Nitin Prasanna casting helped the film in the first half. Nandu is good. Sai Swetha is pretty good in another important role. Harsha Vardhan has become a special actor for doctor roles these days. He is good.

Story - screenplay - direction: It’s a normal murder thriller if you take out the health condition of the protagonist. Director has used it to a good effect in writing the screenplay of the film. He played around with that concept well to keep audiences engaged. I liked the way he coloured the hair of the heroine and Harsha for identification and used this technique to a good payoff in the climax. The way a street chase is designed in the 2nd half is also innovative. We had similar style of staging/screenplay for action sequences in films like Ghajini where the hero has a health condition. However, the reason behind the murder is not narrated convincingly enough. Romance thread is not interesting. Arjun Y K succeeds as a screenplay writer, but the direction should have been more intense/professional.

Other departments: Background score by Vijay Bulganin is impressive. He has given a pretty intense score that helps the narration. Cinematography by S. Chandrasekaran is alright. Editing by Karthika Srinivas R is okay, but you see a few jumps in scenes in the 2nd half. Art direction by Kranthi Priyam is fine. Production values are decent.

Analysis: Prasanna Vadanam is about how a guy with a health issue comes out of a murder-framing case unscathed. Plus points of the film are Suhas, screenplay (twists) and background music. On the flipside, there are pacing issues and the backstory of the killer is not convincing enough. If you are into murder mysteries, you might give Prasanna Vadanam a try!
