Audio review of Andhrawala - No wah wah kind of songs

The fad of conducting audio functions reached a new zenith with the heavily advertised audio function of Andhrawala, which turned out to be nothing less than a grand festive celebration. The show of this magnitude had special trains named after NTR's films, huge cutouts, humongous crowds and total chaos in the town of Nimmakur. Nevertheless, the show went on, albeit without any popular events as advertised before. Let's leave out questions like Why? What for? …etc about this gala show and drive straight to the point.

With just 8 films and a success ratio of about 50% to his credit, NTR has deftly established himself as a mass star with unprecedented fan following for a hero of his age and industry experience. Puri Jagan, the man with mass touch, is known not only for his successes but also for giving his heroes the much needed mass hero image. When these two come together for the first time, one can imagine what they might unleash in Andhrawala.

Jagan's aasthana music director Chakri's compositions for Andhrawala are mostly heard before kind of mass songs. Just like their earlier movie Shivamani, Andhrawala has many mass songs. Though some songs carry a zing of appealing to a particular section they don't have the zest to remain etched for a long time. To make matters worse, Chakri sings all the songs caring least about his voice gelling with the mood of the song or not.

1. Malleteegaroi
Though this song has a catchy guitar beat, Chakri's singing comes as a spoiler. Kousalya is her usual self. Lyrics by Kandikonda are mediocre. This song is already racing its way up the charts. If you don't care much for Chakri's singing or the short irksome rap the end of the song, then you might enjoy this one.

2. Nairey Nairey
This hero introduction/solo song talking about his dildaarness sounds better when seen on the screen for it has NTR displaying fluid dancing skills with his trademark ease. Chakri sings this one, which is worded by Bhaskarabhatla.

3. Nipputunakai
This background song sung by Chakri has racy beats. Another song written by Bhaskarabhatla talking about the greatness of one of NTR's roles in the movie (for starters, NTR is believed to be donning dual roles in this movie).

4. Unga Unga
Chakri once again kills this song with his singing. Anyways there is nothing much to talk about this song which is penned by Bhaskarabhatla. Kousalya lends voice for Rakshitha.

5. Gichhi Gichhi
Another song that could become popular for its beats and tune. Sung by Chakri and Kousalya, Kandikonda writes the lyrics.

6. Kokko komamisa
The song starts off in a funny manner. Though it is not meant to evoke laughter but the lyrics (dil loki ivvana visa, oorinchake samosa, na favoite onion dosa) do tickle your funny bones. Not sure about the lyricist Kandikonda's intention but he sure grabs our attention. Chakri and Kousalya sing this one, which has good beats. You can enjoy this one if you don't mind living with a small amount of déjà vu feeling.

Overall, though Andhrawala has some catchy mass songs it doesn't have any wah wah kind of songs. Some songs might register in your mind either for their hummable tunes or foot tapping beats but they won't stay put there for long. Chakri's voice just doesn't suit all the songs. He should have used other singers like SPB or Mallikharjun or Karthik. Lyrics in most of the songs seem to convey an impression that the lyricist(s) were involved in a 'timed' competition to come up with the lyrics in as little time as possible without caring if their words made any sense.

Andariwala NTR is all set to beckon you as Andhrawala in theaters very soon.

Sreya's Picks: Malleteegaroi

Sreya Recollects:

  • How about (re)trying some of Chakri's melodious compositions from lesser known movies like Oka Raju Oka Rani, Kanulu Moosina Neevaye..
  • Have you listened to O Chilaka recently from Puri Jagan-Chakri's, first movie together, Baachi?
