'Follow the passion', seems to strike many of the young technocrats these days. 'Passion for the cinema' tempted some of the younger people like Kammula and Krish to leave their lucrative careers abroad and follow their heart to make some meaningful movies. The success of these directors created a healthy trend with the influx of more and more young, talented, passionate directors chasing their dreams. Hari Yelleti, one such crazy, passionate &trained director who is announcing his foray in to the movie industry with Ankith, Pallavi & Friends (APF).
The one thing that’s common in all his predecessor's movies is the quality of music. Whether it’s a Shekhar's movie or Krish's movie, you wouldn't resist appreciating the music and rightfully so, all of the albums were chartbusters. Ever since I heard the announcement of APF, I was curious to see if this guy called Hari Yelleti, is gonna break the trend or keep it intact. Thankfully, he seems to be leaning more towards keeping the trend intact. Yes, you are right!! APF music is not at all bad, in fact you might end up buying a CD of it.
Who's Vinu Thomas???? That's the question to strike you, at the first glimpse of album label, and now you carelessly moreover recklessly try to put the CD into your player!!!! I heard, he is a Kerala guy and doing his first album in Telugu (Friends! If I am wrong correct me please). As you keep scanning the songs one after the other and at the pause of the CD player, you not only end up ejecting the CD carefully, but deciding to write a review about it. Yes dudes/dudini's, this album is worth few words.
1. Premani Premani
This is a duet sung by Karunya & Gayatri, with good melodious beats to start off. Both the singers did a tremendous job in the chorus (pallavi), but the tempo seems to be slacking a bit in the middle and by the time you notice its going out of sync it picks off beautifully. Though, it’s a melodious song, you find a western touch in the middle of the track with some sporadic guitar beats. Easily, one of the best songs of the album, with rich lyrical values.
2. Dost He Dost
This is a song about friendship and I believe it is picturized among a bunch of friends. It’s a peppy& fast number from the album and concentrated more towards the younger crowd, who are heavy metal rock freaks. With the first song, "Premani, Premani" Vinu & Hari gave you just the intro to their trend of music with some sprinkles of guitar beats, but here you see more and more!! Though its starts as a melodious song in the chorus, slowly it shifts more towards faster side with guitar distortions and ends with a complete heavy metal rock.
3. Leletha Puvvule
This track is rendered by Karthik. Whether its 'Maikam Kadhihi' from Yuvakudu, 'Oh my Friend' from Happy days or even this one, Karthink does marvelous job in singing these slow and melodious songs. This is certainly a number that will haunt you for sometime. Though, some beats seems to be inspired from Morning Raga (No offense Mr. Thomas, but the fusion beats seem to be so), its a pretty work by Thomas and the lyrical work by Vanamali is worth mentioning.
4. Tell Me Em Kaavalo
This is a fast track and has the potential to be a good dance number. Listen to the lyrics carefully, you will find them refreshing with the blend of some rap vocals. The singing trio of Ranjith, Geetha Madhuri and Balu Thankachan did a nice job.
5. Aalagake Allari Vayasa
You might want to listen this more than once, to get a good feel of it. As you keep on listening, definitely you will fall in love with this track. It’s a sorrow/redemption song without any heavy beats. You get to observe a good flow of tune through out the song, with more emphasis given to lyrics and the music nicely complements the lyrics.
6. Neelo Medilina
It looks like a bit song to complement the flow of the movie. Other than that, I am not sure how to comment on this one.
7. Aaranavvulenduko
I rate this number more than the others, simply as it feels close to one's heart. As they say "Love sprouts from Friendship", this number is about friendship leading to love. It describes the pain/anguish of a guy who is in dilemma about the gal's feeling towards him, who is already a pal (Moreover, he is longing for that precious moment of being at the receiving end of love). Hey!! Don't lie…. Most of you have gone through this situation (whether it’s an infatuation/love or successful/failure, that’s a secondary issue) and definitely you will be left with some nostalgia. If not, it has good melodious beats and you might want to listen at least for that. I am looking forward to see how it transforms on the celluloid and I hope Hari doesn't disappoint.
Finally, APF music is worth to listen for its sheer experimentation of mixing Western/classical beats with good lyrical values. This album is peppy, trendy and youthful. If not exceptional I can rate this album somewhere between above average and excellent. Definitely, couple of songs from this album is going to be in the top 10 chartbusters of this summer. The success of the movie is gonna have lot of effect of on the album too.
Vinu Thomas!!!! Yeah...Now, I know. He is the music director of Ankith, pallavi & Friends (APF)………………
