review of Nuvve.. Nuvve... (Just 'U') - Melodies,
just a few!
-
Sreya Sunil
The
super hit team of Sravanti Ravikishore - Trivikiram - Koti
- Sirivennela after having given us successful movies
like Nuvve
Kavali, Nuvvu
Naaku Nachhav, is now back with Nuvve Nuvve.
Trivikram, who has proved himself as one of the most successful
story-cum-dialogue writers in the recent times with his 'girl-gets-engaged-falls-in-love-with-another-guy'
kind of stories and witty dialogues that lift those clichéd
themes to an endearing level, debuts as a director with this
movie. Tarun and Shriya enact the lead roles
in this tender love story, which also has Prakash Raj,
donning a very important role of that of heroine's father.
Koti's
music for Nuvve
Kavali and Nuvvu
Naaku Nachhav picked up mainly after the movies
released and I think that would be the case with the music
of Nuvve Nuvve too. Of course, at least two songs make
you grope for the rewind button before you proceed to the
next song. But in a movie titled Nuvve Nuvve (Just
'U'), those are melodies, just a few.
Sirivennela,
who pens all the lyrics, dishes out lyrics ranging from exemplary
to ordinary. Another noteworthy point in this album is that
none of the singers are repeated and different singers sing
each song.
1.
Computersu Artsu (Listen)
Devan and Anuradha Sriram who sang Ammammalu
Taatayyalu song in Nuvve Kavali come together again
to sing this teasing song which has some cool, crisp and catchy
lyrics by Sirivennela and which starts off with Koti
and Trivikram singing two opening lines. The song,
while branding subjects like Computers, Arts, Science, Maths,
Commerce as nuisance talks about some important subjects like
'Campus Manners' and 'Campus Rules' where the guys try to
lecture the girls about dresses, debates and diet. The girls
pay back in the same coin talking about guys' bondam like
bodies, bouquets and brickbats. That's the way
aha
aha
I like it
aha aha!
2.
Naa Manasukemayyindi (Listen)
Folks, lets play 'Who wants to be a good guesser?'. Somebody
said 'Try, Try and Try and You will succeed'. No, I am not
going to ask you who quoted that. But the question here is
- Who took that seriously?
A)
Mohan Babu, who of late has been delivering consistent and
continuous flops
B) Vijaya Santhi, a hero(ine) who seems to have forgotten
three letters of English alphabet - i, n, e.
C) Dasari, who doesn't seem to be aware of something called
retirement and is possibly eyeing another Guinness record
D) Udit Narayan.
The
answer unanimously is D (at least until the other choices
succeed). Yes, it's Udit Narayan, who took that food
for thought seriously and whoa he surprises you in this song
with a near perfect pronunciation and a pleasant rendition
accompanied appreciably by Nitya Santoshini. Sirivennela's
lyrics in this love song are clichéd. It's the haunting
tune and the good rendition that are the life of this melodious
song.
3.
Nuvve Nuvve Kavalantundi (Listen)
Most of us, at some point in life, face a conflict of love
- where our love for a person comes in the way of our love
for another person. The former might be showering his love
and affection on us. But what if he doesn't realize that his
love and affection are a hindrance for the love we have for
another equally important person? Sirivennela captures these
feelings beautifully in his lyrics and yet again shows that
when it comes to writing about 'feelings' none is better,
none is more sensible and none is more poetic. The paternal
references about 'megham & chinuku', 'theega
and poovu' and the character's helpless cry about asserting
(or being unable to assert) her own individuality give away
some hints about the story. Koti, though sets up a decent
tune to this song, makes you wish the tune were more melodious
like the tune of Kallaloki Kallupetti (Nuvve Kavali).
Chitra, as always, does a splendid job of bringing
to life the pain and the conflict the character is going through.
At a couple of places the quiver in her voice couldn't have
been better.
4.
I am very sorry (Listen)
Koti adapts Shakira's [a popular Latino diva] 'Wherever, Whenever'
tune and orchestration into this song sung by KK. Though
this is a song where the guy offers apologies to his girl
for having troubled her, the reasons he gives for causing
those sweet little troubles are bound to make her all the
more angry. Lyrics by Sirivennela are funny. Some beats in
the interludes of the song remind us of Premikudu's
Mukkaala Muqabala song.
5.
Niddurapothunna (Listen)
An ordinary song sung by Shankar Mahadevan that talks
about a guy in search of his lover who deserts him because
of a squabble. He also wishes she somehow appear in front
of him avoiding him the trouble of carrying out his painful
enquiry process. Given the lyrics in this song, it reminds
us of a similar song Nelanadiga from Tarun's earlier
hit Priyamaina Neeku, which incidentally was written
by Sirivennela.
6.
Ammayi Nachhesindi (Listen)
An average routine love duet sung by Rajesh and Kousalya
filled with mandatory clichés and ordinary lyrics by
Sirivennela. Koti seems to be confused while composing this
song not knowing whether to make it a medium paced beat based
song or a soft melodious number.
Tarun,
who has been tasting alternating failures and successes, is
banking heavily on this movie to give him the much-needed
push in the cutthroat race for stardom among his contemporaries.
Also, going by his failure-success theory, Tarun seems to
be having a winner up his sleeve with this movie considering
the fact that his last movie Adrustam
was a dud at the box-office. Shriya, one of the most sought
after heroines today after her bubbly role in the runaway
hit Santosham,
is certainly a crowd puller. Sravanti Ravikishore and Trivikram
are already brand names in the industry today and a movie
from them is now awaited with heightened curiosity. Just for
the record, their last two movies had just one nuvve/u
in the title and their latest movie has two nuvve's
in its title. So, going by the inexplicable sentiments of
the industry, doesn't that call for double celebrations -
rewards and couple of awards may be.
Will
the movie meet its expectations? Will Trivikiram carry his
success saga into his new passion of direction too? Will the
chemistry of Tarun and Shriya click? Too many questions, is
it? Lets entertain one more haunting question -- naa manasu
kemayyindi?
Sreya's
Picks: Naa Manasukemayyindi, Nuvve Nuvve Kavalantundi.

thanks to Buzz and Rav (buddies from idlebrain.com
