VN Aditya's films always held some importance to music. For instance, Manasantha Nuvve is a sensational musical hit. Now, Nihal makes his debut as music director with Aditya's latest film Rainbow, releasing Oct 2. For the second time (after Badri) Sunitha sang the single-card version for the album. The album is a mix of freshness and influenced tunes. Overall, it's good to listen, particularly three numbers – Aasa Chinni Aasa, Challu Challu & Sala Sala.
1. Aasa, Chinni Aasa…..
Beautiful melody flows through the lyric from the start to finish. The song comes as a tribute to the colorful existence of nature. The description of Sunrise and Moonrise is superb. Nihal comes out with excellent score. Its repeated listening will sure make it a favorite for any music lover with aesthetic sense.
2. Challu challu
True to the title of the film – Rainbow, you have profuse references to the colors in the rainbow. The tune of this film remind us of Ilayaraja's composition 'Chilakamma Chitikeyanga' rom Dalapathi film. Highly animated music with clear lyric makes the listening well. Nihal, music director, also rendered his voice for the song along with Hemachandra and Sunitha. Sunitha emergence comes after the exposition. Out and out, the lyric is completely devoted to eulogize the rainbow and its human inference.
3. Krishna Krishna
It's a modern invocation of Lord Krishna with a dash of folk, bajhan and western styles mixed together, yet giving a decent result. The lyric penned by child artiste turned hero Baladitya is a good effort on his part and shows his passion for romantic lyrics. Here doing it with Krishnatatvam! Ironically, the lyric sounds well until and unless you don't go into the detail of the lyrical text as it sometimes sounds non-serious or like sarcasm. Hemachandra sang this song. Nihal scored the beats running into sharp and pointed tapping like that of a woodpecker. If you care for music alone, you are making a nice thing.
4. Manasaa, chalinchake
This song comes with a sorrowful note. Nihal and Sunita rendered their voice. It is suggestive of pathos between the lovers. Both the loves express their feelings as to how their hearts yearn for each other. It has the youthful tinge. Despite its romantic nature, there is no depth considering the literature. The lyric is just passable.
5. Swami, raraa
The lyric is rendered for Bharata Natyam. It has all the ingredients to satisfy the listeners tuned to classical segment of music. It has the fast paced beats and at the same time sonorous traditional style of vocal rendition. A superb combination and this can be termed as Nihal's best composition in this film. You can also hear the voice of Sunitha going intense (against her usual slow and elongated style). Thoroughly enjoyable lyric! Onscreen performance will enhance its richness.
6. Naa kallalo
It's a passionate duet. This is rather slow, depicting the pangs of the lovers. Once again, you can feel the sonorous contribution of Sunitha, equally matched by Nihal with his fervent touch. Its good to listen, but you don't find pucca originality in this song.
7. O lalana
This is yet another romantic lyric, where the lover expresses his feel for his ladylove and the intensity it has on his mind. Running parallel to this, the lady keeps bantering at her man. Lyrical value of Vanamali deserves appreciation. Based on its onscreen presence, the youth might like this song, visually.
8. Sala Sala Sala Sala
It is the fast lyric intended for a club song. Nihal came out with peppy and sexy music, yet lacking sparkle of his own. Sunitha sang this number. Having sung several melodious hit songs, for the first time Sunita contributes her voice to a sensuous number. Sahiti's literature is chic.
