My Movie – Ye Maya Chesave

MaroCharitra, Geetanjali and _________ . Any guesses people ? Before 26th February,2010, it wud have been extremely difficult to find a film that fits into the above league for the fear of sounding idiotic. We must have watched n+1 romantic movies, including english, hindi n telugu languages. Yes, romantic movies are cliched. Boy meets a girl, fights goons(mostly her father’s or stalker’s ) and in the end common sense suddenly dawns upon elders watching their boy n girl bathing in tears, blood and self pity. Push in some jokers who tickle, an item song and a few melodies, u can end up with a romantic movie. So what makes Ye Maaya Chesave different?
Well, YMC has all the things u can end up expecting in a typical romantic movie but still u can sense it to be different. Watching YMC is a like a journey through the simplicities and complexities of a human character. Watching the lives of a boy and girl getting entangled in simple yet improbable situations, you find the yawning gap between cinematic experience and realism getting reduced further with every frame, until they both blend seamlessly and you find yourself in a spell of a group of magicians lead by Gautam Menon, A.R. Rehman n co. The visuals are probably one of the best ever dished out by indian film industry, leave alone telugu industry. The main cast had one of the best working chemistries, i have seen in past couple of years, english, hindi n telug alike. You can virtually write poetry about every scene involving Samantha, the voluptous damsel. In the long history of telugu cinema, a hero is more or less judged upon by his histrionics, stylish vis-a-vis cliched mannerisms and the powerful dialogues he can recite. In short we have been witnessing actors who can ‘act’. Watching nagachaithanya, it neva crosses your mind that you are watching an actor. Itz hard to find over-the-top reactions and underperforming body language in his performance. Even when he dances during songs, his boyish enthusiasm, imperfect yet heartfelt dance steps and mannerisms, makes you think that he juz the boy next door living his own dream. If there is one movie that deserves to be there in the league with the movies listed above, if not better than them, itz Ye Maaya Chesave. For a moment, forget about blood thirsty magadheeras, lover aryas, ‘bujji’gadus, simhadris and aadi reddies. It’s time for the telugu film industry to move out of itz teenage(teenage is fun, yes, at the same time itz naive n immatured too) and this film will certainly help to do so. Itz a ‘when harry met sally’ of telugu film industry. Enjoy the ride …You will be swept off your feet by the time the movie ends .
Hmm…Let me clarify that i don’t usually blog about the movies, i watch. It might be coz i don’t feel they are worthy to be ‘blogged’ about. Yeah..i cud write about classics, but whatz the use of me writing em, when u know of em and read about em many times already. While watching YMC, one hour or so into the movie, i was convinced that i will be blogging abt it. Call it artistic sense, exaggeration or naivety, I would most certainly give it a 4.5/5. I am reducing 0.5 coz of 2 reasons: 1) The movie runs for 2hrs 45 mins ‘only’. 2) I might have to probably wait for an year to watch another movie of gautam menon.
