Gudipoodi Srihari Review

tell a friend

The film opens showing people sleep-walking out of their beds and getting killed. This is a pre-title presentation, establishing mystery base for the drama. The film tries to convince us of the existence of mantras and mantrikas.

Now that Raviteja is riding on the success wave, the film makers appear to have completed this nearly two-year-old concept and released to cash in on the actor's popularity. Vamsi (Raviteja) is a firm believer in mysterious occurrences. But his girlfriend Bhavana (Radhika Varma) does not agree with them.

They spend their time in the college library debating over issues like Banamati and other superstitious beliefs.

Vamsi has a reason to believe as none could explain the ghastly death of his elder brother (Bose), falling under train. Vamsi is concerned about it and is bent upon discovering the truth. But the film soon shifts to romance, with Bhavana chasing Vamsi and Vamsi bent on resisting her. He is more involved in fighting a dozen men and emerging a victor always. When it comes to the main story, there is no credibility. It is all about a mantrika Jangaiah living in the forest.

Vamsi's brother, during one of his visits to the forest, comes across this mantrika's daughter Jabilee. After making false promises to her saying he'll marry her, he allows her to become prey to his friends' lust. Unable to bear the humiliation Jabilee commits suicide. An angered Jangaiah vows to kill the man who cheated his daughter and also to bring his daughter back to life through his powers.

How Vamsi defeats his plans forms the rest. Jeeva and other known artistes play minor but weird roles. The film has lot of tasteless scenes.

The only person who display histrionic gift is Raghubabu, playing an attendant in the forest guesthouse. Newcomer Radhika Varma looks elderly but coquettish.

There is nothing in the character of Vamsi for Raviteja to do anything. But for a new fights it is a drab role. Music composer Madhukar, making debut with this film, appears to be more a sound effects man.
