Gudipoodi Srihari Review

tell a friend

The many writers in the film - Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Gopala Krishna and Posani Krishnamurali - attempt to draw a parallel with some of the episodes of the Mahabharata and a historical Battle of Palnadu (Palnati yuddham). The story tries to establish that Bhavani Prasad of the film played by Balakrishna is the progeny of 16th Century ancestor Brahmanaidu of Palnadu.

The length of the film is more than three hours but the film drags on occasions.

The scenes of the two heroines (played by Aarti Agarwal and Sonali Bendre) flanking the hero and setting the stage for quarrel is not new especially to the films of Balakrishna. Sonali plays a hurt woman waiting for an opportunity to avenge what the hero Bhavani Prasad (Balakrishna) has done to her. This character (who appears in the second half) is named Siva Nageswari. Aarti Agarwal plays the role of the hero's niece who is in love with him.

The film has lengthy fights, a bit of fantasy (a chair and a train move back and forth at the command of the hero) and some special effects (a battalion of hens belonging to Bhavani Prasad attack a goonda hired by the villains and police as well). But, all these constitute the mass element. The fantasy part would have gained credence had there been some thematic support to the hero's mysterious acts.
