Gudipoodi Srihari Review

tell a friend

The story is based on a `tit-for-tat' idea which both the hero and the heroine indulge in during and after their college days.

While the hero believes that the girl he loves is also in love with him, she responds by insulting him. So, he decides to pay her back in the same coin and uses her innocent fiancé for this.

Add to this triangle another crucial role of a girl who exemplifies what love really means.

These are the four pillars to the drama and though the story runs on predictable lines, it has a strong grip. Another notable factor is its background score, quite subdued and effective.

Music composer R.P. Patnaik also gives us relishing songs, though the lyrics of a few songs sound pedestrian.

Charan (Tarun) and Sanjana (Anitha) play pranks on each other in college. While doing so, Charan successfully tricks Sanjana into believing his other role as a helpless mute fellow. She hates Charan, but sympathises with his mute double.

Once she realises she is fooled, she starts hating him but pretends to be responding to his love, just to ditch him one fine day.

Encouraged by his parents (Giribabu and Delhi Rajeswari), he goes to her native place to get her parents' nod.

On his journey, he meets USA-based Boney (Rajiv Kanakala), Sanjana's groom-to-be. Charan befriends Boney without knowing who he is.

In the village, Charan confronts Sanjana who ridicules him and tells him she is soon going to wed Boney.

Deciding to pay her back in the same coin, he uses Boney as his pawn and makes her family believe they are going for a foolish NRI.

As a result of this drama, Sanjana and her parents (Saratbabu and Sudha) feel Charan is the right choice.

Sanjana expresses her regret and proposes to him. But he turns down the proposal with equal scorn that she displayed to him. Meanwhile, Charan starts liking another girl Geetha (Sridevi), a radio artiste.

Quite a bit of drama is built to show this angle, by explaining what love really means. The rest moves on predictable lines.

Konda, making his debut as director with this film, seems to be sensible and displays good taste in handling the college-based love drama. He gives good contrast to the two characters of Sanjana and Geetha. Sridevi matches her histrionics with Tarun's and steers her part of the love drama into an interesting tale.

Tarun performs like a veteran. He should take care not to speed up his diction. Anitha's role carries thematic artificiality that affects the basic issue and her performance as well.

Rajeev, basically a theatre man, proves again his skill to present an unusual role interestingly. Among the comedians, Brahmanandam and Ali serve the purpose of their presence. All the character artistes acquit themselves well.
