The success of this film's Tamil original and its remake in
Kannada appears to have prompted Rajasekhar to remake this
in Telugu, and Jeevitha makes her debut as a director with
this venture.
The film has two distinct parts - student days of medico Seshu
and then the saga after he runs into some goons who are into
flesh trade.
In between these two situations lies the story of Seshu, president
of the medical college, and his college mate with a strange
name, Abhitu (Kaveri). Seshu is a rough and tough guy, who
not only goes to the rescue of the distressed, but is also
the master of ragging. Abhitu, his junior, becomes his victim.
But soon Seshu gets drawn to her innocent looks and behavior,
and plans to marry her. But, he learns that Abhitu is about
to get married to her cousin, who's also a priest.
Back at home; Seshu's elder brother (Nasser) brands him as
a street rowdy. But his sister-in-law pampers him.
Abhitu's father, a priest in a temple, faces a problem. His
first daughter is sent by her husband to her parents' house
to fetch more money. He keeps their male child with him, to
blackmail his wife. To raise this money, she moves to a brothel
in the vicinity of their house, but is saved by Seshu. He
then goes to her husband's office, and thrashes him till he
agrees to take back his wife.
The villains running that brothel attack Seshu at an isolated
place and smash him out of his senses. In the hospital a doctor,
who is treating him, finally asks Seshu's brother to put him
in a mental asylum. So he's shifted to 'Ahobilam, Kurnool
district.
And this is the phase from where the complex of the picture
totally changes and acquires an art film structure, sense.
The scenes look unreal and brutal. All inmates are chained
to a pillar, and behave in a chaotic, manner. From this moment
the film moves from one unreal scene to another for a tame
finish.
Rajasekhar
must be credited for giving a heart-rending performance and
sports a dark complexion, shaven head and wounds all over
the body.
By
using a medical college as the backdrop, the story has gained
nothing, except having middle aged Rajasekhar in the role
of a medico. Kaveri, in contrast, looks docile, and performs
well.
Nasser leaves his mark. Music score and photography are technical
highlights.
