Gudipoodi Srihari Review

Subbu is the short form of Balasubramanyam, played by N.T. Rama Rao (Jr.). The entire theme is based on these two names, with heroine Neeraja (Sonali Joshi) knowing Balasubraghmanyam only, while others address the hero as Subbu. Neeraja thinks the two are different. Most of the drama runs like a hide-and -seek game with the director contriving many scenes to hide real identities. It is a patchwork of disjointed situations clubbed together. There is plenty of action too, but the situations created for this drama look artificial.

Neeraja (Sonali) is introduced as a young woman frequenting the college to lend monetary support to poor students through the college principal (Dharmavarapu). Subbu, one such recipient, is curious to have a glimpse of her. Neeraja, on her part, is not aware that this was the young man who motivated her mind through an incident to provide monetary support.

A flashback explains that he was brutally beaten by the police after he rescued a road accident victim Sujatha and revealed his name as Balasubramanyam. In a case of mistaken identity, her father summons the police. Thus, there are too many similar names to confuse the viewer.

Once the family realises that they punished a wrong man, Neeraja, Sujatha's sister, starts donating every year for the cause of poor students. Neeraja also starts admiring Subbu, not knowing he is the same Balasubramanyam. She meets Subbu in college and both become good friends. Thus, there are two tracks - one depicting Neeraja maintaining friendly relations with Subbu, and the other, with Neeraja continuing the search for her Balasubramanyam. Subbu is not aware that Neeraja is the same philanthropist he is looking for. Is the confusion sorted out?

NTR performs well. Sonali Joshi is a misfit in her role. The dubbing voice provided to her sounds too childish to relish. AVS and Brahmanandam take up roles in the detached comedy track, set in familiar mould. The last song highlights Mani Sarma's music score, 'Mother India'.
