With a record 11 Oscars, Lord of the Rings (LOTR): The Return of the King, joins the elite list of movies like Benhur and Titanic matching their record of winning the maximum number of Oscars by a motion picture in a single year.

In another record of sorts, LOTR: The Return of the King, won top honors in all the categories it was nominated for, which include Best Film, Best Director (Peter Jackson), Best Music (Howard Shore), Best Adapted Screenplay, Original Song, Editing, Art direction, Visual effects, Costume design, Sound mixing and Makeup.

The 76th Annual Academy Awards were clearly ruled by the last film in the LOTR trilogy which has amassed more than a billion dollars at the box-office worldwide. Although it was the grand finale, The Return of the King, which was honored with a Best Film trophy, this recognition indeed is bestowed upon the arduous efforts of the entire cast and crew of this magnificent series that brought out the essence of JRR Tolkien's fantasy creation remarkably well.

Sean Penn, one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, finally gets his due winning the coveted trophy for a wonderful performance as a dad determined to avenge his daughter's murder in Clint Eastwood's Mystic River.

Charlize Theron, whom Billy Crystal described as a beautiful monster, was adjudged the Best Actress for Monster where she plays the role of a real life serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

Tim Robbins is the Best Supporting Actor (Mystic River) and Rene Zellweger was declared the Best Supporting Actress (Cold Mountain).

The man behind Godfather series and a multiple Oscar winner, Francis Ford Coppola was seen glowing in glee as his daughter, Sofia Coppola, walked away with honors for Best Original Screenplay for Lost In Translation. She was also nominated as the Best Director for the same film creating history as the first American woman to be nominated as a director.

Canada's The Barbarian Invasions won Best Foreign Language Film, and Pixar's fabulous hit Finding Nemo was declared the Best Animated Film.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World won trophies for Best Sound Editing and for Best Cinematography.

Though nominated in various categories and having won rewards at the box-office, Seabiscuit and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, did not win any awards.

It was a "clean sweep", as Billy Crystal hosting the show for the eight time, put it for the trophies that came the LOTR way.

In indeed was a night for the 'ring' to dazzle in its blinding yet captivating radiance. All you LOTR fans, like me, its time to rejoice and catch another glimpse of the movie(s).
