Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) and the U.S Consulate General have successfully organised The Pink Ribbon Walk 2010 on Sunday, October 3rd at KBR Park. Breast cancer survivors, their families, men & women different walks of the life including several Corporates such as Deloitte, Dell, staff & their unwavering solidarity for the Event. Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee and renowned actor Akkineni Nageshwara Rao flagged off the PINK ROBBON WALK

Speaking on the occasion Consul General Katherine Dhanani said “US Consulate is delighted to partner with UBF at the PINK RIBBON WALK 2010. We stand shoulder to shoulder with UBF to express our solidarity & commitment in empowering women and making an impact on lives of thousands of women in Andhra Pradesh”

Dr. P. Raghu Ram, CEO, Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, said “Oct 3 2010 is indeed a landmark day for UBF. It is well and truly an honour for UBF to have the United States Consulate associating with the Pink Ribbon initiative conceived and designed by the Foundation. EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER SAVES LIVES. There are only two ways for early detection of breath cancer. First, all women must be ‘Breast Aware ‘ and if they detect any changes in the breast, they should consult a specialist. Second, all women over the age of 40 years should have annual screening mammograms. Detection of breast Cancer at an early stage will ensure long term survival of well over 90 percent.”

As part of the campaign, ‘Paint The City Pink’ is beaing organized on the evening of 3rd October. For the FIRST TIME EVER in India , prominent buildings such as the U.S. Consulate General, Charminar ,Buddha statue on the lake, KIMS & many hoardings across the City will be lit PINK to demonstrate solidarity at creating breast cancer awareness in the city of Hyderabad.
