As we see the surge of the social media platform TikTok in India and its rising popularity, it looks like filmmakers have an interesting angle to explore. While the Hindi film Bala saw Yami Gautam play a TikTok star, director Maruthi explores the same for Raashi Khanna in his upcoming film Prathi Roju Pandage.
Interestingly, both of the films began picturization around the same time with both the films having extremely similar character outlines. “It sure is a topic of trend and I wanted to explore it. Raashi has got a brilliant comic timing and I wanted to make use of it in this film,” shares Maruthi.
Speaking about her character, he says, “She plays a TikTok celebrity in the film and her character is such that she speaks using only social media terminology and takes herself excessively seriously. In fact, that is how the TikTok celebrities are! The platform has made it possible for youngsters to see this quick fame and the word celebrity gets tagged to them. Raashi’s character is a reflection of that.”
Apparently, this was also a way to bring in the young audiences into the theatres. “I want to attract all types of audiences and youngsters are surely one of the target crowds,” he shares.
