Major is a biopic of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who laid his life while serving for the country during 26/11 Taj terrorist attacks in Mumbai. It’s produced by Mahesh Babu, Anurag Reddy and Sarath Chandra in association with Sony. Made on a reasonable budget, the producers had spent a lot on marketing and promotion of the film. They had India-wide pre-release premieres 10 days before the release of the film. Those premieres did generate excellent buzz with crowds giving standing ovations. This had paid premieres across Telugu states and Bangalore and went housefull everywhere.
Biopic genre is not a popular genre at the box office. Even then, Major film has generated instant blockbuster talk and went onto become housefuls in a limited release. It has collected $269k during the premieres in the USA. Adivi Sesh’s earlier highest premiere number was $61k for his last film Evaru. By the first weekend, it has collected a massive $871k and crossed Adivi Sesh’s highest USA collection ($772k for Goodachari).
It broke even in all areas and generating profits for the distributors. The producers have broken even with sales of the film even before the release.
In four days, Major has collected a gross of ₹40.44 worldwide. If you observe closely, this film has generated half of it in Telugu states and the remaining half from rest of India (mostly Hindi version) and overseas!
