This film,
undoubtedly, had the best combination with lots of expectations.
The idlebrain.com's pages views have gone up by 50% when we kept
the songs of Mrigaraju on the night of 4th of January 2001. And
that extra page views are retained in the subsequent days, mainly
due to the extra coverage given to Mrigaraju film, which has kept
Chiranjeevi fans glued to idlebrain.com most of their net time.
That was the popularity Mrigaraju had at that time.
But when the
film was released, the negative talk spread like a wildfire. Mrigaraju
bombed miserably at box office. The producer Devi Vara Prasad
embarked on a foreign tour to cool his heels off and get some
solace. That film was such a humiliation for the mega producer
that he later admitted in an interview that he suffered heart
attack. The main reason for his heart attack is for pondering
excessively over what has went wrong with the film (Later on he
requested Pawan Kalyan to do a film for him, that's different
matter all together).
The main complaint
about the film is pathetic story line and lack of nativity. Everybody
pointed his or her fingers on Chiru's excessive weight. In fact,
Chiranjeevi was also having the same physique in Annayya too.
But nobody bothered to bemoan about it, as Annayya became a blockbuster.
Chiranjeevi went to USA four days ahead of the film's release.
But after getting feedback about his obesity, he extended his
trip and stayed on there for a month to reduce his weight.
The photographer
Sekhar Joseph did not have a single Telugu film after Mrigaraju
(though he is doing 'Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu' now). The Nizam distributor
Asian films did not distribute any film after Mrigaraju film,
in which they lost money in crores. Asian films are distributing
Subbu and Seema Simham now.
This film
has warned all the people who are involved in the production of
'Mrigaraju' not to take public for granted.
