October 1, 2006

Saripalli Kondala Rao started a foundation in the memory of Allu Rama Lingaiah and has been giving Allu National awards from 2004 onwards on the birthday of Allu Rama Lingaiah (1st October). Mano Rama and Brahmanandam were given Allu awards for the year 2004 and 2005 respectively.

Johnny Lever is conferred with Allu National award for the year 2006 at a function held in Harihar Kala Bhavan today evening. Pawan Kalyan and T Subbirami Reddy attended this function as guests. Lots of Telugu comedians Kota, Brahmanandam, Sunil, Ali, Babu Mohan, LB Sriram, Rallapally, AVS, Mallikharjuna Rao, Gundu Hanmantha Rao etc attended this function. Allu Arvind could not make it to the function as he had to go to USA on some urgent issue. Chiranjeevi could not make it as he is away in London now.

The function was started with cultural shows. Komili sisters (small girls) impressed the crowds with their jokes. Kameswara Rao performed comedy show. Prem Kumar (Paschima Godavari) donned the get-up of Chiranjeevi to enact crucial scenes from Tagore film. Raju (Martur) danced to Muthyalu Vastava song with Allu Ramalingaiah get-up. Balaraju sung a couple of songs in Chiranjeevi’s charities. K Ravi (USA), Dr, Krishna Murthy, Intiaz, Vasiraju Prakasam and Virinchi (AGM of SBI) attended this function.

All the comedians expressed their feelings about Allu Ramalingaiah and Johnny Lever.

Allu Award is the greatest honor in my life - Johnny Lever
Responding to this award Johnny Lever said, “Allu Ramalingaiah was a versatile comedy actor who acted in various roles in his career spanning 55 years. He was active even when he was in 70’s. Doing comedy is a tough task and Allu Ramalingaiah excelled in it. I feel that getting this award is the greatest honor of my life. My parents moved from Prakasam district to Mumbai when I was 15 days old. I was brought up in Mumbai. I stayed in Mumbai slums for 20 years. During that strenuous period I learnt about comedy and dancing. Telugu people show lots of love on film celebrities and I did happen to face such memorable situations with Telugu people all around the world. I wanted to act in Telugu films. But I am afraid that I can’t match the might of stalwart comedians like Brahmanandam, Kota, Ali etc."
