A full scale feature film on the life of Gautama Buddha of 6th and 5th centuries BC is being attempted on Indian Screen. K Raja Sekhar, an industrialist and exporter from Hyderabad is producing this film under the banner ‘Dharma Patha Creations’. Dr. K Sivananda Murty, a great exponent of Indian culture, history and philosophy is providing the script and dialogues for the film in English. The Hindi rendering is done by Dr. DK Goel. The film is shot simultaneously in Hindi and English. The Hindi version will be released first followed by the English version.
The purpose of this is to remind ourselves about the universal values of non-violence, tolerance and sacrifice as a way of life to the whole society. Such a way of life with a spiritual goal can lead an individual to emancipation. Buddha’s renunciation is portrayed as one with the objective of welfare of mankind and not mere one’s own liberation and is base don the original literature and historic reaches. This presentation is hoped tro send a message relevant to the times of violence and materialism in which we are living.
Allani Sridhar is directing the film and Sasi Preetam is giving music. The shooting of the film commenced on 26 February at Ramoji Film City and the film is expected to be made ready for release on Buddha Poornima, I.e. 2nd May 2007. The star cast includes Sunil Sharma (Sri Krishna of ETV Bhagavatam) in the lead role of Gautama Buddha and artists of National repute like Puneet Issar, Aman Varma, Surendra Pal, Kausha Rach and Maansi Pandey in other important roles. Parvati Melton appears in an impressive role in the English version of the film.
