MSR Team is marching ahead with its vision! For their first movie together “Padamati Sandhya Ragam” (PSR), Gummuluru Sastry and Meer Abdulla recorded the very first song of that film “Pibarey Raama Rasam…” in US. Composed by S.P Bala Subramanyam and sung by S.P. Balu and Shailaja, that song has the distinction of being the “First Telugu Film Song Ever Recorded in the US”! PSR, directed by famous Film Writer Director Late Jandhyala, went on to win critical acclaim and get success at the box-office at the same time.
In a similar fashion, Maro Sandhya Ragam (MSR) Team has recorded the first song titled “Mohana Raama” for MSR at Avalon Studios in Washington, D.C. on Feb 17, 2007. “Unique distinction of this song is that it was written, composed, sung, and the entire orchestra – all of it was by the NRI’s here in the US”, said Meer Abdulla.
“When we started MSR, we wanted to give opportunities to local talent to the extent possible. That’s what we did with this song. All of the artists and musicians who worked for this song are extremely gifted and talented. And the melody tune composed by Padmaja Sonti is marvelous! Singers Padmaja and Melvin Michael put their hearts in their voices! Really! …..We’re confident that the song will be well-received by the audience!”
After the song recording, MSR Team celebrated the occasion with a party. “This song will be shot partly in US and party in India”, said Gummuluru Sastry. “Casting for this film will include some well known stars from Indian Film Industry as well as local talent from here. We’re pleased to see same kind of enthusiasm and support for MSR as we did with PSR”.
Music director for the movie is Nandi award-winner Madhavapeddi Suresh; but the film makers took his consent to create this song entirely in the USA with the intention of encouraging artistic and passionate NRI’s living in USA. This song was composed by Padmaja Sonti, written by Chakravarthula, and sung by Padmaja Sonti with Mervin Michael. Dr. Anand Chellappa on keyboard, Raghavendra Bhatni on veena, Daniel Prabhakar on tabla, Raman on flute, Rajna Swaminathan on mridangam, Anjna Swaminathan on violin, and Dhananjaya Kumar on sound effects – provided the accompaniments for the song. Lakshmi Bangaru, well-known Kuchipudi Dancer and Teacher, has coordinated the recording. She will also provide choreography for the song,
”Key idea is that we want to keep making quality and yet commercially successful films, one every year, by beautifully blending film industry stars with the available NRI talent in USA – just like how we did with PSR”, said Meer Abdulla.
