The massive pan-India film Varanasi, starring Superstar Mahesh Babu and directed by maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli, is being produced by KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya under the banners of Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business. The makers have officially locked the title Varanasi. The film features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra in pivotal roles.

At the grand Globe Trotter event, the team unveiled the title, Mahesh Babu’s first-look poster, and a teaser titled “Varanasi to the World”, showcasing the film’s scale. Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and the core team were present at the event, which created buzz at both national and international levels.

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Speech

“My father’s words have always guided me. I followed everything he said—except one: he asked me to play mythological roles, and that’s the only thing I didn’t do. With this film, even that wish has been fulfilled. Wherever he is, he would be happy hearing my words today. His blessings are always with us.

Varanasi is my dream project. A chance like this comes only once in a lifetime. I will make everyone proud—especially my director. When this film releases, every Indian will feel proud. This is just a title announcement. I’m leaving the rest to your imagination.

Director SS Rajamouli’s Speech

“I’ve always loved the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. I’ve often said that making the Mahabharata is my dream. But when I started working on this film, I never imagined I’d adapt a major episode from the Ramayana. Yet as I wrote each scene, each dialogue… as I visualised the shots… it felt like I was flying, not standing on the ground.

During the photoshoot of Mahesh Babu in Lord Rama’s avatar, I literally got goosebumps. I even set that picture as my wallpaper but removed it fearing someone might see it.

We’ve already shot for 60 days. Each point in the story opens up into multiple layers. We’ve faced many challenges along the way. Varanasi will be the most memorable film of my career.

Mahesh never uses his phone from the moment he comes to set until he leaves. Inspired by him, I too am trying to stay away from my phone. I will try to follow him in that.”

In these 15 years, Rajamouli has risen to incredible heights, yet he has not changed—his work ethic, his simplicity, his vision remain the same. I thank Prithviraj and Priyanka for accepting the roles. Mahesh Babu is a producer’s hero just like his father Krishna garu. My first film Kshanakshanam had music by Keeravaani; now he is an Oscar winner, and we’re working together again. We will bring this film to the audience as soon as possible.”

సూప‌ర్‌స్టార్ మ‌హేష్ హీరోగా ద‌ర్శ‌క‌ధీరుడు రాజ‌మౌళి ద‌ర్శ‌క‌త్వంలో రూపొందుతోన్న భారీ చిత్రం ‘వారణాసి’. శ్రీ దుర్గా ఆర్ట్స్, షోయింగ్ బిజినెస్ బ్యానర్లపై కేఎల్ నారాయణ, ఎస్ఎస్ కార్తికేయ నిర్మిస్తోన్న‌ చిత్రానికి ‘వారణాసి’ అనే టైటిల్‌ను ఫిక్స్ చేశారు. ఈ చిత్రంలో పృథ్వీరాజ్ సుకుమారన్, ప్రియాంక చోప్రా కీలక పాత్రల్ని పోషిస్తున్నారు. ఈ మేరకు గ్లోబ్ ట్రాట‌ర్‌ అంటూ గ్రాండ్ ఈవెంట్ నిర్వహించిన చిత్రయూనిట్ ఈ కార్యక్రమంలోనే టైటిల్‌ను, హీరో ఫస్ట్ లుక్ పోస్టర్‌ను, సినిమా స్థాయిని చాటేలా ఓ టీజర్‌ (వారణాసి టు ది వరల్డ్)ను కూడా రిలీజ్ చేశారు. జాతీయ, అంతర్జాతీయ స్థాయిలో బజ్ క్రియేట్ చేసిన ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో ప్రియాంక చోప్రా, పృథ్వీరాజ్ సుకుమారన్‌తో పాటుగా చిత్రయూనిట్ పాల్గొంది. ఇక ఈ ఈవెంట్‌లో

సూప‌ర్‌స్టార్ మహేష్ బాబు మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘మా నాన్న గారు చెప్పిన ప్రతీ మాటను నేను విన్నాను. ఒక్క మాట తప్పా. పౌరాణిక పాత్రలు పోషించమని చెప్పిన మాటను మాత్రం నేను వినలేదు. ఈ చిత్రంతో ఆ కోరిక కూడా నెరవేరింది. మా నాన్న గారు ఎక్కడున్నా కూడా ఈ రోజు నా మాటల్ని విని సంతోషిస్తారు. ఆయన ఆశీస్సులు ఎప్పుడూ మనతోని ఉంటాయి. ‘వారణాసి’ నా డ్రీమ్ ప్రాజెక్ట్. ఇలాంటి అవకాశం జీవితంలో ఒకసారి మాత్రమే వస్తుంది. అందరినీ గర్వపడేలా చేస్తాను. ముఖ్యంగా నా దర్శకుడ్ని గర్వపడేలా చేస్తాను. ఈ చిత్రం రిలీజ్ అయినప్పుడు మన భారతీయులంతా గర్వపడతారు. ఇది కేవలం టైటిల్ అనౌన్స్‌మెంట్ మాత్రమే. ముందు ముందు ఎలా ఉండబోతోందో మీ (అభిమానులు) ఊహకే వదిలేస్తున్నాను. అభిమానుల ప్రేమ, సపోర్ట్ ఎప్పుడూ ఇలానే ఉండాలని కోరుకుంటున్నాను. మీ ప్రేమకు నేను ఏమిచ్చినా రుణం తీర్చుకోలేను. మీ అందరికీ నేను చేతులెత్తి దండం పెడతాను, నాకు అది మాత్రమే తెలుసు. ఈ ఈవెంట్‌ను మేమెంతో కష్టపడి మీ (అభిమానులు) కోసం ఏర్పాటు చేశాం. అందరూ క్షేమంగా తిరిగి ఇంటికి వెళ్లండి’ అని అన్నారు.

ద‌ర్శ‌క‌ధీరుడు ఎస్‌.ఎస్‌.రాజమౌళి మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘నాకు రామాయణం, మహాభారతం అన్నా చాలా ఇష్టం. మహాభారతం తీయాలనేది నా డ్రీమ్ అని చాలా సార్లు చెప్పాను. ఈ మూవీని మొదలు పెట్టినప్పుడు రామాయణంలోని ఓ ముఖ్యమైన ఘట్టాన్ని తీస్తానని నేను అనుకోలేదు. కానీ ఒక్కో సీన్ రాస్తుంటే.. ఒక్కో డైలాగ్ వస్తుంటే.. షాట్‌ని ఊహించుకుంటూ ఉంటే.. నేల మీద కాకుండా గాల్లో విహరిస్తున్నట్టుగా అనిపించింది. మహేష్ బాబుని రాముడి గెటప్‌లో ఫోటో షూట్ చేస్తుంటే రోమాలు నిక్కబొడుచుకున్నాయి. ఆ ఫోటోని వాల్ పేపర్‌గా పెట్టుకున్నాను. ఎవరైనా చూస్తారేమో అని మళ్లీ తీసేశాను. ఇప్పటి వరకు 60 రోజుల పాటు షూట్ చేశాం. ప్రతీ పాయింట్‌లో సబ్ పాయింట్ ఉంటుంది. ఈ క్రమంలో ఎన్నో సవాళ్లు ఎదుర్కొన్నాం. నేను ఇంత వరకు చేసిన చిత్రాలన్నింటిలోకెల్లా మెమరబుల్ సినిమాగా ‘వారణాసి’ నిలుస్తుంది. సెట్‌కి వస్తే మళ్లీ తిరిగి వెళ్లే వరకు మహేష్ బాబు ఫోన్‌ను వాడరు. మహేష్ బాబులా నేను కూడా ఫోన్ వాడకుండా ఉండేందుకు ప్రయత్నిస్తా. ఈ విషయంలో మహేష్‌ని ఫాలో అయ్యేందుకు ప్రయత్నిస్తాను’ అని అన్నారు.

మ‌ల‌యాళ స్టార్ పృథ్వీరాజ్ సుకుమారన్ మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘ఒకరోజు రాజమౌళి గారి దగ్గరి నుంచి నాకు మెసెజ్ వచ్చింది. ‘హాయ్.. నేను రాజమౌళిని.. నేను నెక్ట్స్ చేయబోతోన్న ప్రాజెక్ట్‌లో విలన్ పాత్ర అద్భుతంగా వస్తోంది.. మీరు చేసేందుకు ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్‌గా ఉన్నారా’ అని మెసెజ్ వచ్చింది. వెంటనే రాజమౌళి గారి ఆఫీస్‌కి వెళ్లి ఆయన్ను కలిశాను. ఐదు నిమిషాలు నెరేట్ చేశాక నా మైండ్ బ్లాక్ అయింది. ఆయన స్టోరీని నెరేట్ చేసిన తీరు, ఆయన చెప్పే విధానం, ఆయన విజన్ చూసి షాక్ అయ్యాను. అలా మూడు గంటల పాటు నాకు నెరేట్ చేశారు. ఈ చిత్రం అద్భుతంగా ఉండబోతోంది. ఇందులో మహేష్ బాబు విశ్వరూపం చూస్తారు. ప్రియాంక చోప్రాతో కలిసి నటిస్తుండటం ఆనందంగా ఉంది’ అని అన్నారు.

భారతీయ నటి ప్రియాంక చోప్రా మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘‘వారణాసి’ చిత్రంలో నాకు అవకాశం ఇచ్చిన రాజమౌళి గారికి, నన్ను నమ్మిన నా నిర్మాత కేఎల్ నారాయణ గారికి థాంక్స్. మహేష్ బాబు చాలా మంచి వ్యక్తి. ఆయన అద్భుతమైన నటుడు. నమ్రత, సితార వల్ల హైదరాబాద్ నాకు సొంత ఇంటిలా మారిపోయింది. వారంతా నన్ను ఎంతో బాగా చూసుకుంటున్నారు. పృథ్వీరాజ్‌ ఇందులోని పాత్రతో అందరినీ చాలా భయపెడతాడు. కానీ బయట మాత్రం పృథ్వీరాజ్ చాలా మంచి వ్యక్తి. ఈ చిత్రం పూర్తయ్యేలోపు నేను పూర్తిగా తెలుగు నేర్చుకుని, తెలుగులోనే స్పీచ్ ఇస్తాను’ అని అన్నారు.

స్టార్ రైట‌ర్ విజయేంద్ర ప్రసాద్ మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘‘వారణాసి’ చిత్రంలో మహేష్ బాబు నటన చూసి మాటలు రాలేదు. ఓ ముప్పై నిమిషాల సీన్ ఉంటుంది.. అది ఇంకా నా మైండ్‌లో తిరుగుతూనే ఉంది. సీజీ చేయలేదు.. డబ్బింగ్ లేదు.. ఆర్ఆర్ లేదు.. ఎలాంటి వర్క్ చేయలేదు.. కానీ అందులో మహేష్ బాబు తాలుకా విశ్వరూపం చూసి నాకు మాటలు రాలేదు. ఆ సీన్ నన్ను మంత్రముగ్దుడ్ని చేసింది. సినిమా చూసిన తరువాత ఆడియెన్స్‌ కూడా అదే ఫీలవుతారు’ అని అన్నారు.

ఆస్కార్ విన్నింగ్ మ్యూజిక్ డైరెక్ట‌ర్ ఎం ఎం కీరవాణి మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘మహేష్ బాబు, మణిశర్మ కాంబోలో వచ్చిన ‘పోకిరి’ అంటే నాకు చాలా ఇష్టం. నేను క్లాస్ ట్యూన్స్ మాత్రమే ఇస్తానని , మాస్ బీట్స్ ఇవ్వలేని కొంత మంది అంటుంటారు. కానీ ఈ సారి ‘వారణాసి’లో బీట్స్ చూస్తారు. క్లాస్ నాదే.. బీట్స్ నాదే.. ఆ బీట్స్‌తో మహేష్ బాబు అభిమానుల గుండెల్లో చిరస్థానం దక్కుతుంది’ అని అన్నారు.

నిర్మాత ఎస్ ఎస్ కార్తికేయ మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘నేను చిన్న చిన్న చిత్రాలు చేసుకుంటూ నిర్మాతగా ఎదుగుతున్నాను. నేను ఇంత పెద్ద ప్రాజెక్ట్‌కి నిర్మాతగా వ్యవహరిస్తానని అనుకోలేదు. ఈ స్థాయికి రావడానికి నాకు ఇంకో పదేళ్లు పడుతుందని అనుకున్నాను. కానీ నాకు ఈ ‘వారణాసి’తో చాలా త్వరగా అవకాశం వచ్చింది. నేను ఇలా మొదటి సారిగా గ్లోబల్ ప్లాట్ ఫాం మీద నిల్చుని నిర్మాతగా మాట్లాడుతున్నాను. ఇండియన్ సినిమాని గ్లోబల్ లెవెల్‌గా తీసుకెళ్లేందుకు మళ్లీ మేం మరొక ప్రయత్నం చేస్తున్నామ’ని అన్నారు.

నిర్మాత కేఎల్ నారాయణ మాట్లాడుతూ .. ‘పదిహేనేళ్ల క్రితం నేను మహేష్ బాబు గారి వద్దకు వెళ్లి రాజమౌళితో సినిమా చేద్దామా? అని అడిగాను. ఆయన వెంటనే ఓకే అన్నారు. ఆ తరువాత రాజమౌళి గారి వద్దకు వెళ్లి అడిగాను. నాకున్న కమిట్మెంట్లు పూర్తైన తరువాత చేస్తాను అని రాజమౌళి గారు మాట ఇచ్చారు. ఇప్పుడిలా పదిహేనేళ్ల తరువాత మేం మీ ముందుకు వస్తున్నాం. ఈ 15 ఏళ్లలో రాజమౌళి గారు ఎంతో ఎత్తుకు ఎదిగారు. కానీ ఆయన నాకు ఇచ్చిన మాటకు కట్టుబడి నాకు సినిమా చేసి పెడుతున్నారు. అప్పటికీ, ఇప్పటికీ ఆయన ఏమీ మారలేదు. సినిమా తీసే విధానం, ఆయన ప్రవర్తించే విధానం, సినిమా పట్ల ఆయనకుండే విజన్, ఆయన సింప్లిసిటీ ఏమీ కూడా మారలేదు. అడిగిన వెంటనే ఒప్పుకున్న పృథ్వీరాజ్ గారికి, ప్రియాంక చోప్రా గారికి ధన్యవాదాలు. మహేష్ బాబు గారు ఆయన తండ్రిలానే ప్రొడ్యూసర్స్ హీరో. నా మొదటి సినిమా క్షణక్షణంకి మ్యూజిక్ అందించిన కీరవాణి ఇప్పుడు ఆస్కార్ గ్రహీత అయ్యారు. మళ్లీ ఆయనతో ఇలా పని చేస్తుండటం ఆనందంగా ఉంది. ఈ మూవీని త్వరలోనే ఆడియెన్స్ ముందుకు తీసుకు వచ్చే ప్రయత్నం చేస్తామ’ని అన్నారు.
