?? What does ‘Aghadha’ mean?
-- As soon as we announced the title Aghadha, many people searched for its meaning online. Aghadha can be understood as something deep or an abyss—a void. We have never seen God or demons with our own eyes. Aghadha is a story that unfolds around the forces that exist between such realms.

At present, youth and mass audiences are the ones who bring in the initial openings for a film. Later, family audiences come to theatres based on positive word of mouth.

At the pre-release event, Shyam Prasad Reddy said something about me. He said, “The M.S. Raju I know doesn’t make films relying only on horror elements. There are many more layers to his films.” Those words show how well he understands me.

As he said, Aghadha is not merely about horror or frightening elements. It has several different aspects. I have portrayed an evil force that works against God in Aghadha.

?? Tell us about the research you did for ‘Aghadha’.
-- I did extensive research for Aghadha and travelled to many places. But the audience doesn’t need to know all of that. I made the film to entertain everyone rather than turning it into an art film.

I combined the reality I observed with my imagination to create a good cinematic experience. During the making of Devi, I faced several financial difficulties. Yet, I felt that some kind of power kept pushing me forward.

Even during the journey of Aghadha, I felt as though a similar force was guiding me. I wanted to make a film about an evil force in a way that would appeal to the current generation, and that is how Aghadha came about.

I wanted the film to appeal not just to single-screen audiences but also to multiplex viewers. I have made this film with complete sincerity.

?? You suddenly stopped producing films. Why?
-- Aata and Maska were good films, and I achieved commercial success with them. However, many people told me that they did not meet the standards I had set for myself.

After that, I also focused on my son’s career. After several years, I made Dirty Hari, which was completely different from my usual taste.

Throughout my journey, I have always chosen to say yes to new stories. I want to earn a reputation as a filmmaker who can make films in any genre. Rather than making an art film simply because I like it, I prefer making a good commercial film that connects with audiences.

?? You seem to have tremendous confidence in the success of ‘Aghadha’.
-- I have never before come on stage and openly stated that a film of mine was good. But after watching Aghadha, I genuinely felt that the film was good and that it would be successful. That is exactly what I said.
I am confident that once people watch the movie, they too will say that it is good.

?? How is the VFX work in ‘Aghadha’?
-- I focus on every single frame. I don’t move forward unless I have complete clarity about what I want. I am deeply involved in every film I make.

I think about every craft and every aspect of filmmaking. Even when I was a producer, I used to discuss the story with directors, and they would also consider my suggestions.

Judging by the teaser and trailer you have seen so far, you must already have an idea about the standard of the VFX work in our film. What you see in the actual movie will be even more impressive.

Your comments about N.T. Rama Rao have been criticised on social media. What is your explanation?
I have never woken up at Brahma Muhurtham—the auspicious early-morning hours—to work on any film before. But for Aghadha, I used to wake up at 3 a.m., just like N.T. Rama Rao garu. I was inspired by him and worked with that kind of discipline.While explaining this, I casually mentioned something that is already widely known about him. It is well known that Rama Rao garu used to eat chicken early in the morning. I said it in a light-hearted manner out of my immense admiration and affection for him.My father shared a very good relationship with Rama Rao garu. My father also had an opportunity to make a film with him, but it fell through at the last minute because of the elections.I had the privilege of observing his dedication and discipline from close quarters. No matter how much people troll me, Rama Rao garu’s spirit certainly won’t troll me! (laughs)

?? Tell us about the distribution of ‘Aghadha’.
-- Initially, we decided not to give Aghadha to anyone for distribution. But after the trailer was released, we received calls from several people.The Hombale Films team from Karnataka approached us. Some people from Geetha Arts and Annapurna Studios also came and watched the film.For now, I want to release the film here first and then release it in other languages. The dubbing work in all languages has been completed.I have said that we will give the film to an OTT platform only after 60 days. That deal is still on hold.

?? Tell us about your relationship with your heroes.
-- I maintain a good relationship with all my artistes.
After watching the teaser and trailer of Aghadha, Mahesh Babu garu sent me a voice message. He said, “You’re going to hit it big this time, sir.”

Prabhas said, “You’re going to nail it, bro.”
I met Venkatesh while he was shooting for Trivikram’s film. He spoke to me with great warmth and affection.
The fans of all my heroes have always supported me as well.
Will you continue as a director, or will you return to producing films?
Right now, I am focusing on the story, screenplay, writing, and making of my films. I am not getting involved in the financial aspects at this stage.
When it came to Dirty Hari and Aghadha, all my friends came forward and said, “We will produce the films.” That has allowed me to reduce the financial burden on myself and focus more on the story and writing.

?? Is the story of ‘Aghadha 2’ ready?
-- Once Aghadha is released, I will reveal whether the next chapter will be a prequel or a sequel. The story definitely has the scope for either.

For now, I can say that Aghadha is a mystic divine thriller. The film has been made in a way that will appeal to audiences across all sections.

‘అగధ’ చిత్రాన్ని చూశాక విజయం సాధిస్తుందని నా మనసుకి అనిపించింది - దర్శకుడు ఎం.ఎస్. రాజు

శ్రీ ఆదివరాహ ప్రొడక్షన్స్ బ్యానర్ మీద అజయ్ కేఆర్ సమర్పణలో కాశీ విశాలాక్షి బలుసు నిర్మాణంలో ఎం.ఎస్. రాజు తెరకెక్కించిన చిత్రం ‘అగధ’. ఈ మూవీలో కామాక్షి భాస్కర్ల, శ్రవణ్ రెడ్డి, ఉల్కా గుప్తా, జోవికా విజయ్‌కుమార్, భాను చందర్, షిజు, వనిత విజయ్‌కుమార్, రోషన్ బషీర్, శ్రేయా రాణి రెడ్డి, వివా రాఘవ, రాబర్ట్ మాస్టర్, ఆర్నా ములేర్, కనకవ్వ ముఖ్య పాత్రలను పోషించారు. ఈ సినిమాని ఆగస్ట్ 14న భారీ ఎత్తున విడుదల చేయబోతున్నారు. ఈ క్రమంలో మంగళవారం నాడు దర్శకుడు ఎం.ఎస్. రాజు మీడియాతో ముచ్చటించారు. ఆయన చెప్పిన చిత్ర విశేషాలు ఓ సారి చూద్దాం.

‘అగధ’ అంటే ఏంటి?
‘అగధ’ అని టైటిల్ పెట్టగానే చాలా మంది నెట్‌లో సర్చ్ చేశారు. అగధ అంటే లోతైన అంశం, ఓ శూన్యం అని చెప్పుకోవచ్చు. మనం దేవుడ్ని, దెయ్యాలను కంటితో చూడలేదు. అలాంటి ఫోర్స్‌లకు మధ్య జరిగే కథ ‘అగధ’. ప్రస్తుతం సినిమాకి ఓపెనింగ్స్ తీసుకు వచ్చేది యూత్, మాస్ ఆడియెన్స్. ఆ తర్వాత మౌత్ టాక్‌తో ఫ్యామిలీ ఆడియెన్స్ బయటకు వస్తారు. ప్రీ రిలీజ్ ఈవెంట్‌లో శ్యాం ప్రసాద్ రెడ్డి నా గురించి ఓ మాట చెప్పాడు. నాకు తెలిసిన ఎం.ఎస్. రాజు కేవలం హారర్ ఎలిమింట్స్‌తో మాత్రమే సినిమా తీయడు.. ఇందులో చాలా అంశాలు ఉంటాయి అని ఆయన అన్నాడు. నన్ను ఎంత అర్థం చేసుకున్నాడో ఆ మాటలే సాక్ష్యం. ఆయన చెప్పినట్టుగానే కేవలం ఇందులో హారర్, భయపెట్టే అంశాలు మాత్రమే ఉండవు. అన్ని రకాల అంశాలు ‘అగధ’లో ఉంటాయి. దేవుడికి వ్యతిరేకంగా పని చేసే ఓ దుష్ట శక్తిని ‘అగధ’ అన్నట్టుగా చూపించాను.

‘అగధ’ కోసం మీరు చేసిన రీసెర్చ్ గురించి చెప్పండి?
‘అగధ’ కోసం చాలా రీసెర్చ్ చేశాను. చాలా చోట్ల తిరిగాను. అవన్నీ కూడా ఆడియెన్స్‌కి అవసరం లేదు. ఇదొక ఆర్ట్ ఫిల్మ్‌లా కాకుండా అందరినీ రంజింపజేసేలా రూపొందించాను. నేను చూసిన రియాల్టీకి నా ఫ్యాంటసీని జోడించి ఓ మంచి సినిమాటిక్ ఎక్స్‌పీరియెన్స్ ఇవ్వాలని తీశాను. ‘దేవి’ టైంలో నేను ఎన్నో ఆర్థిక సమస్యలను ఎదుర్కొన్నాను. కానీ ఏదో ఒక పవర్ నన్ను ముందుకు నడిపించింది. ఇప్పుడు ‘అగధ’ జర్నీలోనూ నాకు అలాంటి ఓ ఫోర్స్ ముందు ఉండి నడిపించినట్టుగా అనిపిస్తోంది. ప్రస్తుతం ఉన్న తరాన్ని అట్రాక్ట్ చేసేలా దుష్టశక్తి మీద ఓ సినిమాని తీయాలని అనుకుని ‘అగధ’ చేశాను. కేవలం సింగిల్ స్క్రీన్స్ కాదు మల్టీప్లెక్స్ ఆడియెన్స్‌ని కూడా ఆకట్టుకోవాలని అనుకున్నాను. ఈ చిత్రాన్ని నిజాయితీతో తెరకెక్కించాను.

మీరు సడెన్‌గా సినిమాల్ని నిర్మించడం ఆపేశారు.. ఎందుకు?
‘ఆట’, ‘మస్కా’ మంచి చిత్రాలు. కమర్షియల్‌గా విజయాలు అందుకున్నాను. కానీ నా స్టాండర్డ్‌లో లేవు అని చాలా మంది అన్నారు. ఆ తర్వాత మా అబ్బాయి కెరీర్ మీద కూడా ఫోకస్ పెట్టాను. చాలా ఏళ్ల తర్వాత ‘డర్టీ హరి’ని తీశాను. అది నా టేస్ట్‌కి పూర్తి భిన్నంగా ఉంటుంది. నా జర్నీలో ఎప్పుడూ కూడా కొత్త కథలకే ఓకే చెబుతూ వచ్చాను. ఎం.ఎస్. రాజు ఎలాంటి జానర్‌లో అయినా కూడా సినిమా తీయగలడు అనే పేరు సంపాదించుకోవాలి. నాకు నచ్చిన ఆర్ట్ ఫిల్మ్ తీసే బదులు మంచి కమర్షియల్ సినిమాని తీయడానికే ఇష్టపడతాను.

‘అగధ’ చిత్రం విజయంపై భారీ నమ్మకంతో ఉన్నారు?
నేను ఇంత వరకు స్టేజ్ మీద అలా ఓపెన్‌గా సినిమా బాగుంది అని స్టేట్‌మెంట్ ఇవ్వలేదు. కానీ ‘అగధ’ చూసిన తర్వాత సినిమా బాగుంది, విజయం సాధిస్తుందని నా మనసుకి అనిపించింది. అదే విషయాన్ని చెప్పా. మూవీని చూసిన తర్వాత అందరూ కూడా బాగుందని చెప్తారనే నమ్మకం నాకు ఉంది.

‘అగధ’ వీఎఫ్ఎక్స్ వర్క్ ఎలా ఉంటుంది?
నేను ప్రతీ ఫ్రేమ్ మీద ఫోకస్ పెడతాను. నాకు క్లారిటీ వస్తే తప్పా ముందుకు వెళ్లను. నేను తీసిన ప్రతీ చిత్రంలో నా ఇన్వాల్వ్మెంట్ ఉంటుంది. ప్రతీ క్రాఫ్ట్ గురించి ఆలోచిస్తాను. నేను నిర్మాతగా ఉన్నప్పుడు కూడా దర్శకులతో కథా విషయంలో చర్చించేవాడ్ని. వాళ్లు కూడా నా సలహాలను తీసుకునేవారు. ఇప్పటి వరకు మీరు చూసిన టీజర్, ట్రైలర్‌లను బట్టే మా సినిమాలోని వీఎఫ్ఎక్స్ వర్క్ స్టాండర్డ్ గురించి అర్థమై ఉంటుంది. సినిమాలో అంతకు మించి ఉంటుంది.

ఎన్టీ రామారావు గారి గురించి మీరు మాట్లాడిన వ్యాఖ్యల్ని సోషల్ మీడియాలో విమర్శిస్తున్నారు. దానిపై మీ వివరణ ఏంటి?
నేను ఇంత వరకు ఏ సినిమాకి కూడా బ్రహ్మ ముహుర్తంలో లేచి పని చేయలేదు. కానీ ‘అగధ’ కోసం ఎన్టీ రామారావు గారిలా ఉదయం మూడు గంటలకే నిద్ర లేచేవాడ్ని. ఆయన్ను స్పూర్తిగా తీసుకుని పని చేశాను అని చెప్పే క్రమంలో అందరికీ తెలిసిన విషయాన్ని నేను సరదాగా చెప్పాను. ఆయన ఉదయాన్నే చికెన్ తింటారు అన్నది అందరికీ తెలిసిందే. రామారావు గారి మీదున్న అంతులేని అభిమానంతోనే ఆ మాటలు నేను సరదాగా అన్నాను. మా నాన్న గారు, రామారావు గారికి మంచి అనుబంధం ఉంది. మా నాన్న గారికి రామారావు గారితో సినిమా చేసే ఛాన్స్ వచ్చినా చివరి నిమిషంలో ఎన్నికల వల్ల మిస్ అయింది. ఆయన నిబద్దత, క్రమశిక్షణను దగ్గర్నుండి చూశాను.

‘అగధ’ డిస్ట్రిబ్యూషన్ గురించి చెప్పండి?
‘అగధ’ని ముందు ఎవ్వరికీ ఇవ్వకూడదని అనుకున్నాం. ట్రైలర్ రిలీజ్ అయ్యాక చాలా మంది ఫోన్స్ చేశారు. కన్నడ నుంచి హోంబలే టీం సంప్రదించింది. గీతా ఆర్ట్స్, అన్నపూర్ణ స్టూడియో టీం నుంచి కొంత మంది వచ్చి సినిమాని చూశారు. ముందు ఇక్కడ సినిమాని రిలీజ్ చేసిన తర్వాత మిగతా భాషల్లో విడుదల చేయాలని అనుకుంటున్నాను. అన్ని భాషల్లో డబ్బింగ్ పనులు పూర్తయ్యాయి. అరవై రోజుల తర్వాతే ఓటీటీకి ఇస్తామని అన్నాను. ఆ డీల్ ఇంకా హోల్డ్‌లోనే ఉంది.

మీ హీరోలతో మీకున్న రిలేషన్ గురించి చెప్పండి?
నేను నా ఆర్టిస్టులందరితోనూ మంచి రిలేషన్ మెయింటైన్ చేస్తాను. ‘అగధ’ టీజర్, ట్రైలర్ చూసి మహేష్ బాబు గారు నాకు వాయిస్ మెసెజ్ చేశారు. ‘ఈ సారి కొడుతున్నారు సార్’ అని మహేష్ అన్నారు. ‘కొడుతున్నావ్ బావ’ అని ప్రభాస్ అన్నారు. త్రివిక్రమ్ షూటింగ్‌లో ఉండగానే వెంకటేష్‌ని కలిశాను. ఎంతో ఆప్యాయంగా మాట్లాడారు. నా హీరోల ఫ్యాన్స్ అంతా కూడా నాకు ఎప్పుడూ సపోర్ట్ చేస్తూనే ఉన్నారు.

ఇకపై దర్శకుడిగానే కంటిన్యూ అవుతారా? లేక సినిమాల్ని నిర్మిస్తారా?
ఇప్పుడు నేను కథ, స్క్రీన్ ప్లే, రైటింగ్, మేకింగ్ మీద దృష్టి పెట్టాను. నేను ఇప్పుడు ఆర్థిక విషయాల జోలికి వెళ్లడం లేదు. ‘డర్టీ హరి’, ‘అగధ’ విషయంలో నా ఫ్రెండ్స్ అంతా ముందుకు వచ్చి మేమే నిర్మిస్తాం అని అన్నారు. అందుకే ఆర్థిక భారాన్ని నేను తగ్గించుకుని కథ మీద, రైటింగ్ మీద ఫోకస్ పెడుతున్నాను.

‘అగధ 2’ కథ రెడీగా ఉందా?
‘అగధ’ రిలీజ్ అయిన తర్వాత ప్రీక్వెలా? సీక్వెలా? అన్నది చెప్తాను. ఈ మూవీకి ఆ స్కోప్ అయితే ఉంది. ‘అగధ’ ఓ మిస్టిక్ డివైన్ థ్రిల్లర్ అని మాత్రం చెప్పగలను. అన్ని వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకుల్ని ఆకట్టుకునేలా ‘అగధ’ ఉంటుంది.
