King of Entertainment Sree Vishnu is all set to enter a distinctly different world with Comrade Kalyan, an entertaining blend of period elements, humour, romance, and emotion. Directed by Janakiram Marella and presented by Kona Venkat, the film is produced by Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati under Skanda Vahana Motion Pictures LLP. The movie is gearing up for a theatrical release on October 9th. After creating initial curiosity with its glimpse and songs, the makers unveiled the film’s teaser today.
Set along the Andhra-Odisha border in 1992, Comrade Kalyan introduces Sree Vishnu as a theatre owner who is an ardent fan of revolutionary filmmaker R Narayana Murthy and predominantly screens his films. He leads a seemingly happy and uncomplicated life until he falls in love with an Odia girl. However, circumstances take an unexpected turn, eventually pushing him towards the path of Naxalism.
Despite the serious backdrop, director Janakiram Marella presents the story through a predominantly humorous lens. Barring a handful of Naxal-related sequences, the teaser maintains a light-hearted and entertaining tone throughout, suggesting that comedy will be one of the film’s biggest strengths.
Sree Vishnu once again proves why he is regarded as the King of Entertainment, with his impeccable comic timing and effortless screen presence. His portrayal of a theatre owner and passionate admirer of R Narayana Murthy provides plenty of humour. His interactions with Satya and Sudarshan, in particular, are major highlights.
Mahima Nambiar makes a pleasant impression as the Odia girl, while Radhika Sarathkumar brings conviction to her role. Shine Tom Chacko is seen in a serious avatar, and Upendra Limaye appears in a significant character.
Cinematographer Sai Sriram captures the rural landscape of the Andhra-Odisha border beautifully, with the lush greenery and natural surroundings adding visual richness to the film. Vijay Bulganin’s music complements the film’s comic mood while also creating a sense of tension during the forest-based sequences set against the Naxalite backdrop. Chota K Prasad handles the editing, while the overall production values look impressive.
The teaser successfully combines humour with an intriguing revolutionary backdrop and, more importantly, leaves audiences curious about the transformation of Sree Vishnu’s character. While the teaser promises an entertaining ride, it also raises an interesting question- what exactly forces this happy-go-lucky life to take the revolutionary path?
