“Crazy Kalyanam” stars VK Naresh, Anupama Parameswaran, Tharun Bhascker and Akhil Uddemari, known for “Raju Weds Rambayi,” in the lead roles. The film is being produced by passionate producer Boosam Jagan Mohan Reddy under the Arrow Cinemas banner as Production No. 2. Badrappa Gajula is directing the film.

“Crazy Kalyanam” is set for a grand worldwide theatrical release on October 16, on the occasion of Dasara. In a recent interview, director Badrappa Gajula shared the highlights of the film.

The final copy of our film “Crazy Kalyanam” is ready. We initially planned to release it on October 30, as we thought we would not get enough theatres due to the release of big films this month. However, when “Adarsha Kutumbam” was postponed, we felt that our film would get enough theatres, so we changed the release date to October 16. The entire shoot has been completed, and we are currently shooting a promotional song. A few big films are releasing on October 16, but ours is a family entertainer, so we hope family audiences will come to theatres to watch it. Although this is a Telangana-based film, the dialogues and dialect are easy for everyone to understand.

I am from Bandamailaram, near Medchal in Telangana. I was born and brought up there. My family has roots in the art forms. I heard that my great-grandfather used to narrate stories while playing a musical instrument. My grandfather and father used to perform different characters in Bhagavatham plays held in our village. They used to share those experiences with me. In that way, I developed an interest in cinema without even realising it. I wanted to tell the stories I had in mind through films. I never worked as an assistant director. I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts course and made documentaries related to government schemes and tourism films. I made more than 200 videos. During that process, I travelled to villages and interacted with people. The Iranian film “Children of Heaven” inspired me as a filmmaker. After watching it, I realised that cinema is about incidents happening around us, the experiences of our lives and the characters we see in our surroundings.

During my student days, we used to attend our friends’ weddings. Compared to boys who are studying, girls are often married off at a younger age in the name of society and family honour. Girls also have dreams of studying well and achieving something in life, but their parents arrange their marriages early. While all their classmates attend the wedding as guests and enjoy themselves, the girl is the one getting married. I started thinking about what might be going through a girl’s mind in such a situation, and that is how the idea for this story began. In the name of culture and family honour, we should not impose our thoughts on girls without understanding what they think and what they want to achieve in life. Even today, girls are getting married while they are still students. My intention is to bring about a change in this situation. Initially, I wanted to narrate the story to Anupama garu, but I was unsure whether she would agree. However, as soon as I narrated it, she came forward and agreed to do the film.

Having grown up among the women in my family, including my elder sister, younger sister, mother and grandmother, I wanted to tell a story from a girl’s perspective. I tried to present those emotions and the experiences I had observed in a new way on screen. During the making of this film, I heard the word “crazy” many times in connection with the characters, scenes, music and other aspects. The word sounded catchy, so we decided on the title “Crazy Kalyanam.” A wedding held in front of a house has a different kind of excitement and emotion. Nowadays, everyone is conducting weddings in function halls. During our film’s shoot, we filmed wedding scenes right in front of a house. The major part of this story is filled with fun, along with good emotions. We have presented the point I wanted to convey in an entertaining way, with just the right amount of emotional scenes. Tharun Bhascker plays a key role in our film. After listening to the story, he completely surrendered himself to his character. He portrayed all nine emotions and performed very well.

*Dr. Gorati Venkanna garu has written three songs for our film. His way of looking at life is reflected in his songs. I am happy to have got the opportunity to work with him through this film. I had previously made a few advertisements for producer Jagan Mohan Reddy garu’s company. During that time, he developed confidence in me after observing my work and sincerity. He trusted that I could make a film as a newcomer and gave me this opportunity. Anupama did not compromise at all while performing her role. She would explain how a girl might feel in a particular situation and improvise scenes while acting. Her performance will impress everyone. I currently have a few stories with me. After this film’s release, I will plan my next movie.

- మా "క్రేజీ కల్యాణం" సినిమా కాపీ రెడీగా ఉంది. ఈ నెలలో పెద్ద సినిమాలు ఉన్నందువల్ల థియేటర్స్ దొరకవని 30వ తేదీ రిలీజ్ చేయాలని అనుకున్నాం. అయితే ఆదర్శకుటుంబం సినిమా విడుదల వాయిదా పడటంతో మన సినిమాకు తగినన్ని థియేటర్స్ దొరుకుతాయని ఈ నెల 16వ తేదీకి రిలీజ్ డేట్ మార్చుకున్నాం. షూటింగ్ అంతా కంప్లీట్ అయ్యింది. ప్రమోషనల్ సాంగ్ షూట్ చేస్తున్నాం. ఈ నెల 16న కొన్ని పెద్ద మూవీస్ వస్తున్నాయి. అయితే మాది ఫ్యామిలీ ఎంటర్ టైనర్ కాబట్టి ఫ్యామిలీ ఆడియెన్స్ థియేటర్స్ కు వస్తారని ఆశిస్తున్నాం. ఇది తెలంగాణ నేపథ్య సినిమా అయినా మనందరికీ అర్థమయ్యేలా మాటలు, యాస ఉంటాయి.

- మాది తెలంగాణ, మేడ్చల్ దగ్గర బండమైలారం. నేను పుట్టి పెరిగింది అంతా అక్కడే. మా ఫ్యామిలీలో ఆర్ట్ ఫామ్ కు సంబంధించిన రూట్స్ ఉన్నాయి. మా ముత్తాత ఎవరో సంగీత వాయిద్యం పట్టుకుని కథలు చెప్పేవారట. మా తాత, మా నాన్న ఊరిలో భాగోతాలు జరిగినప్పుడు అందులో క్యారెక్టర్స్ లో నటించేవారు. అవన్నీ నాకు షేర్ చేసేవారు. అలా నాకు తెలియకుండా సినిమా కళ పట్ల ఇష్టం ఏర్పడింది. నేను చెప్పాలనుకున్న కథలు సినిమా ద్వారా చెప్పాలనుకున్నా. నేను ఎక్కడా అసిస్టెంట్ డైరెక్టర్ గా వర్క్ చేయలేదు. బ్యాచ్ లర్ ఆఫ్ ఫైన్ ఆర్ట్స్ కోర్స్ చేశాను. ప్రభుత్వ పథకాలకు సంబంధించిన డాక్యుమెంటరీస్, టూరిజం ఫిలింస్ రూపొందించాను. 200లకు పైగా వీడియోస్ చేశాను. ఆ క్రమంలో ఊర్లకు వెళ్లడం, అక్కడి ప్రజలతో మాట్లాడాను. ఇరాన్ మూవీ చిల్ర్డన్ ఆఫ్ హెవెన్ దర్శకుడిగా నన్ను ఇన్ స్పైర్ చేసింది. మన చుట్టుపక్కల జరిగే ఘటనలు, మన జీవిత విశేషాలు, మన చుట్టూ ఉండే పాత్రలే సినిమా కదా అని చిల్ర్డన్ ఆఫ్ హెవెన్ చూశాక అర్థమైంది.

- చదువుకునే టైమ్ లో ఫ్రెండ్స్ పెళ్లిళ్లకు వెళ్లేవాళ్లం. చదువుకునే అబ్బాయిలతో పోల్చితే సొసైటీ, పరువు అనే పేర్లు చెప్పి అమ్మాయిలకు త్వరగా పెళ్లిళ్లు చేస్తుంటారు. అమ్మాయిలకు కూడా తమ జీవితాల్లో ఏదో ఒకటి సాధించాలని, బాగా చదువుకోవాలని డ్రీమ్స్ ఉంటాయి. కానీ వాళ్ల పేరెంట్స్ త్వరగా పెళ్లి చేస్తారు. మిగతా క్లాస్ మేట్స్ అంతా ఆ పెళ్లికి అతిథులుగా వచ్చి హ్యాపీగా ఉంటే ఆ అమ్మాయి మాత్రం పెళ్లికూతురిలా ఉంటుంది. అలాంటి సందర్భంలో అమ్మాయి ఆలోచనలు ఎలా ఉంటాయి అనే దగ్గర ఈ కథ ఆలోచన మొదలైంది. కల్చర్, పరువు పేరుతో మన ఆలోచనలు అమ్మాయిల మీద ఆపాదించకుండా, వాళ్లు ఏం ఆలోచిస్తున్నారు. వాళ్లు జీవితంలో ఏం కావాలని కోరుకుంటున్నారు అనేది తెలుసుకోవాలి. ఇప్పటికీ అమ్మాయిలు స్టూడెంట్స్ గా ఉన్నప్పుడే పెళ్లిళ్లు అవుతున్నాయి. ఆ పరిస్థితిలో మార్పు రావాలనేదే నా ప్రయత్నం. ఫస్ట్ అనుపమ గారికి కథ చెప్పాలనుకున్నాను కానీ ఆమె ఒప్పుకుంటుందా లేదా అనే సందేహం ఉండేది. కానీ కథ చెప్పగానే అనుపమ ఈ సినిమా చేస్తానంటూ ముందుకొచ్చారు.

- అక్క, చెల్లి, అమ్మ, నానమ్మ..ఇలా నా కుటుంబంలోని మహిళల మధ్యలో పెరిగిన నాకు అమ్మాయి మనసు కోణంలో కథ చెప్పాలని అనిపించింది. ఆ ఎమోషన్స్, నేను చూసిన అనుభవాలు అవన్నీ కొత్తగా తెరపై చూపించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాను. ఈ సినిమా జరిగే ప్రాసెస్ లో క్యారెక్టర్స్, సీన్స్, మ్యూజిక్..ఇలా ప్రతి చోటా క్రేజీ అనే పదం ఎన్నోసార్లు విన్నాను. ఈ పదం క్యాచీగా అనిపించింది. అందుకే క్రేజీ కల్యాణం అనే టైటిల్ పెట్టుకున్నాం. ఇంటి ముందు జరిగే పెళ్లిలో ఉండే సందడి, ఆ ఎమోషన్ వేరు. ఇప్పుడు అందరూ ఫంక్షన్ హాల్స్ లో చేస్తున్నారు. మా సినిమా షూటింగ్ టైమ్ లో ఇంటి ముందే పెళ్లి సీన్స్ చిత్రీకరించాం. ఈ కథలో మేజర్ పార్ట్ ఫన్, అయితే మంచి ఎమోషన్స్ ఉంటాయి. ఈ మూవీలో నేను చెప్పాలనుకున్న పాయింట్ ను వినోదాత్మకంగా చూపిస్తూ వెళ్లాం. ఎమోషన్ సీన్స్ ఎంత కావాలో అంతే ఉంటాయి. తరుణ్ భాస్కర్ మా సినిమాలో కీ రోల్ చేస్తున్నారు. ఈ కథ విన్నాక ఆయన క్యారెక్టర్ కు సరెండర్ అయ్యారు. నవరసాలు పండించారు. బాగా పర్ ఫార్మ్ చేశారు.

- మా చిత్రంలో డాక్టర్ గోరటి వెంకన్న గారు మూడు పాటలు రాశారు. ఆయన జీవితాన్ని చూసే విధానం పాటలో కనిపిస్తుంది. ఈ సినిమా ద్వారా ఆయనతో పరిచయం ఏర్పడటం సంతోషంగా ఉంది. ఈ చిత్రంలో డాక్టర్ గోరటి వెంకన్న మూడు పాటలు రాశారు. ప్రొడ్యూసర్ జగన్ మోహన్ రెడ్డి గారి సంస్థలో నేను కొన్ని యాడ్స్ చేశాను. ఆ టైమ్ లో నా పనితనం, నిజాయితీ చూసి ఆయనకు నమ్మకం ఏర్పడింది. కొత్తగా సినిమా రూపొందిస్తాడని నమ్మి నాకు అవకాశం ఇచ్చారు. అనుపమ తన పాత్రలో నటించే క్రమంలో ఏమాత్రం రాజీపడలేదు. ఒక అమ్మాయిగా తన ఎమోషన్ ఎలా ఉంటుందో చెబుతూ సీన్స్ ఇంప్రువైజ్ చేసి నటించేవారు. ఆమె పర్ ఫార్మెన్స్ ప్రతి ఒక్కరినీ ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. ప్రస్తుతం నా దగ్గర కొన్ని కథలు ఉన్నాయి. ఈ సినిమా రిలీజ్ అయ్యాక నెక్ట్స్ మూవీ ప్లాన్ చేసుకుంటా.
