Leading filmmaker SS Rajamouli on Friday dropped the trailer of Gali Kireeti-headlined Junior and it ticks all the boxes for a proper popcorn entertainer with a coming-of-age theme.
Clocking in at two minutes 16 seconds, the trailer opens with a middle-class husband (played by V Ravichandran) and his wife becoming parents at a late age, often facing the ridicule of the society. The father assures his baby boy that everything will change for good. The boy Abhi grows up to be the dashing protagonist of the story (Kireeti). He has a way of dealing with friends, frequently landing them in trouble with his antics. He falls for a girl Spoorthy (Sree Leela) who dreams of a brighter future by working hard in the present. Being the only child, Abhi is pampered and protected a lot by his father, which Abhi dislikes so much so that he wants to escape from his father’s sight. Next up, we get to see Genelia, who is playing Abhi’s boss in the film. While the major conflict is concealed, a particular plot point leads Abhi heading to a village and learning about a past that changes his attitude towards his father forever. To know what it is, we have to wait until July 18th.
In all, one gets the impression that the film is a light-hearted entertainer which packs in romance, action and drama in equal measure without taking itself seriously. It looks to be a vehicle which positions Kireeti as an actor who has all the facets that a newcomer needs– looks, good acting chops and nimble-footed dance skills. And he looks comfortable in the all the departments going by the trailer. From the supporting department, V Ravichandran stands out with his understated yet nuanced portrayal of a middle-class working man. Devi Sri Prasad’s music enhances the mood without overpowering the story, while Sai Korrapati seems to have spent a good amount of money to give the movie a vibrant and rich look.
Also featuring Rao Ramesh, Sudharani, Achyut Rao and Satya, Junior, a production venture of Rajani Korrapati under Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram, is written and directed by Radha Krishna.
