Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited period drama Kaantha has already created a strong buzz with its intriguing first-look posters. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, this Tamil-Telugu bilingual film stars noted actor Samuthirakani in a crucial role, with Bhagyashri Borse playing the female lead opposite Dulquer. The film is being mounted on a grand scale by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese under the banners of Spirit Media Pvt. Ltd. and Wayfarer Films Pvt. Ltd. On the occasion of Dulquer Salmaan’s birthday, the makers unveiled the film’s teaser, which has significantly raised expectations for the project.
The story follows Chandran, a versatile actor, and Ayy, a veteran writer-director. Initially close at the start of their careers, their relationship fractures as fame sets in. Ayy begins his first horror film centered around a powerful female protagonist named Shantha. However, as Chandran’s stardom grows, he hijacks the project, changes the script to suit his image, and renames it Kaantha.
Set against the backdrop of 1950s Madras, the teaser captures intense emotions and a thrilling narrative. The sets and costumes beautifully recreate the era. Director Selvamani Selvaraj has intricately crafted the storyline with strong emotional depth.
Dulquer Salmaan impresses with his commanding screen presence. Samuthirakani completely immerses himself in the role of a veteran filmmaker, while Bhagyashri Borse makes a solid mark with her graceful performance.
Dani Sanchez Lopez’s exceptional cinematography vividly brings the 1950s to life, while Thaa Ramalingam’s art direction adds rich visual grandeur. Jhanru Chantar’s music heightens the emotional intensity, and Tamil Prabha contributes additional screenplay. The editing by Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalves keeps the narrative engaging throughout.
The teaser has generated a huge buzz, significantly raising expectations for Kaantha, which is set to hit theatres on September 12.
