It’s well known that OG is creating waves at the box office, and music director Thaman has played a crucial role in that success. Ever since the teaser, Thaman’s music has been a talking point. Living up to the hype, he delivered a powerful score that elevated the film’s overall impact.
As part of OG promotions, Thaman sat down for an exclusive interview with Idlebrain Jeevi, where he shared his musical journey, the emotional highs and lows, and the creative process behind scoring OG.
Speaking about how cinema and media have evolved, Thaman said that with the rise of social media and platforms like Instagram, even music has to adapt to the "reels" generation. He recalled a particularly difficult phase during Guntur Kaaram, where the "Remove Thaman from SSMB28" trend hurt him deeply. “It was the first time in years that I cried my heart out,” he said emotionally. Even after delivering massive musical hits like Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and Bheemla Nayak, he faced targeted online attacks. However, he added that Trivikram stood by him like a pillar of strength during that time.
Talking about OG, Thaman said: “The moment a star like Pawan Kalyan agreed to this dark gangster film, everything changed. We wanted the film to answer a lot of unspoken questions.”
Thaman shared that for the Japan backdrop, they used authentic Japanese instruments not just in scenes set in Japan, but also when Japanese-themed photos and books appear on screen — creating a continuous musical mood. He revealed that he sat for three days and composed an entire musical arc just for OG.
He praised director Sujeeth, calling him a hardcore Pawan Kalyan fan who understood exactly how to present his idol.
“Sujeeth’s room is filled wall-to-wall with Pawan Kalyan photos,” Thaman smiled.
Thaman shared his love for the film Johnny, which he says he has watched over 10 times. For OG, he wanted to incorporate the song "Let’s Go Johnny" and reached out to Ramana Gogula, who immediately agreed, saying “I’m always ready for Pawan Kalyan.”
He also said that most OG music discussions happened during lunch breaks and coffee sessions, not formal meetings.
Moving on to Raja Saab, Thaman promised that it will exceed all expectations people have of Prabhas, calling it “a complete makeover and a mass treat.” He praised director Maruthi for crafting the film brilliantly and said it will be remembered for years.
Speaking about Akhanda 2, Thaman said, “Just like you don’t play soft drums while offering aarti to God, you can’t go subtle with Akhanda. It demands grandeur.” He assured fans that the sequel will be equally spectacular.
Thaman admitted that even though Gautam Nanda had a strong story, its failure came as a shock to him. He also revealed upcoming projects: composing for Balakrishna’s next with Gopichand Malineni, and for the Chiranjeevi–Bobby film, which he says will show Chiranjeevi exactly how fans want to see him on screen.
On his relationship with Devi Sri Prasad, he said: “DSP is a champion. We have great respect for each other.”
Finally, when Jeevi asked whether OG 2 is on the cards, Thaman confirmed: “Yes, OG 2 is definitely happening. There’s a lot more coming from the OG world. Sujeeth will never let go of this universe, and even Pawan Kalyan is very excited. OG is a film that will be remembered for a long time.”

'OG' ప్రమోషన్లో భాగంగా 'ఐడిల్ బ్రెయిన్' జీవీకి ఇంటర్వ్యూ ఇచ్చారు థమన్. సంగీత దర్శకుడిగా తన ప్రయాణంలో ఎదుర్కొన్న ఎత్తుపల్లాలన్నిటినీ జీవీతో పంచుకున్నారు థమన్.
కాలక్రమంలో సినిమా మీడియమే మారిపోయిందంటూ, దానికి అనుగుణంగానే తమను తాము మలచుకుంటూ సాగాల్సిన అవసరముందన్నారు థమన్. సోషల్ మీడియా, ఇంస్టాగ్రామ్ ప్రభావం పెరగడంతో సోషల్ మీడియా లో రీల్స్ ను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొని కూడా సంగీతాన్ని అందించాల్సివస్తుందన్నారు. తన జీవితంలో 'గుంటూరు కారం' సినిమా సమయంలో తనపై సోషల్ మీడియాలో జరిగిన దాడి తనను చాలా వేదనకు గురి చేసిందన్నారు. చాలాకాలం తరువాత తల పగిలేలా ఏడ్చానన్నారు. 'అల వైకుంఠపురంలో' మరియు 'భీమ్లా నాయక్' లాంటి మ్యూజికల్ హిట్స్ తరువాత కూడా 'గుంటూరు కారం' విషయంలో తనపై ట్విట్టర్ వేదికగా కొందరు కావాలనే తనను లక్ష్యంగా చేసుకొని తనపై దాడి చేశారన్నారు. అలాంటి క్లిష్ట సమయంలో దర్శకుడు త్రివిక్రమ్ తనకు అండగా నిలబడి ధైర్యం చెప్పారన్నారు.
థమన్ 'OG' గురించి మాట్లాడుతూ.. "పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ లాంటి ఒక పెద్ద స్టార్ ఈ కథ ఒప్పుకున్నప్పుడే 'OG' సినిమా లెక్కలన్నీ మారిపోయాయి. ఈ సినిమాతో చాలా ప్రశ్నలకు సమాధానాలు చెప్పాలనుకున్నాం. ఈ సినిమా కోసం జపాన్ సంగీత పరికరాలను కేవలం జపాన్ నేపథ్యంలో నడిచే సన్నివేశాల్లోనే కాకుండా ఆ నేపథ్యం కనిపించే ఫోటోలు, పుస్తకాలు తెరపై కనిపించినప్పుడు కూడా వాడడం జరిగింది. 'OG' కోసం మూడు రోజులు కూర్చొని మ్యూజికల్ ఆర్క్ ఒకటి ప్రత్యేకంగా రాసుకున్నాను. 'OG' కోసం దర్శకుడు బాగా నలిగాడు. స్వతహాగా సుజీత్ పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ వీరాభిమాని కావడంతో తన అభిమాన హీరోను తెరపై ఎలా చూపాలో అన్న విషయంపై అతనికి పూర్తి అవగాహన ఉంది. సుజీత్ రూమ్ నిండా పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ ఫోటోలే ఉంటాయి" అంటూ చెప్పుకొచ్చారు.
'జానీ' సినిమా అంటే తనకు చాలా ఇష్టమని, ఆ సినిమాను పదిసార్లకు పైగా చూసి ఉంటానన్నారు. 'OG' కోసం 'జానీ' సినిమాలో 'లెట్స్ గో జానీ' పాట పాడటం కోసం రమణ గోగులను సంప్రదిస్తే "పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ కోసం నేనెప్పుడైనా రెడీ" అంటూ వచ్చి పాట పాడారన్నారు. 'OG' కోసం చర్చలన్నీ లంచ్ సమయాల్లో, కాఫీ త్రాగే సమయాల్లోనే ఎక్కువగా జరిగేవన్నారు.
'రాజాసాబ్' సినిమా గురించి కూడా మాట్లాడారు థమన్. ప్రేక్షకులు ప్రభాస్ ను ఎలా చూడాలనుకుంటున్నారో, దానికి రెట్టింపు స్థాయిలో 'రాజాసాబ్' అలరిస్తుందన్నారు. సరికొత్త ప్రభాస్ ను 'రాజాసాబ్' లో చూడబోతున్నామన్నారు. దర్శకుడు మారుతి 'రాజాసాబ్' సినిమాను అద్భుతంగా చిత్రీకరిస్తున్నారన్నారు. ఆ సినిమా గురించి చాలా ఏళ్లు మాట్లాడుకుంటారన్నారు.
'అఖండ' సినిమా గురించి చెప్తూ.. భగవంతుడికి హారతి ఇచ్చినప్పుడు తక్కువ శబ్దంతో తాళాలు కొట్టమని, తక్కువ శబ్దంతో డ్రమ్ములు వాయించమని చెప్పలేం! 'అఖండ' కూడా అంతే" అన్నారు. 'అఖండ 2' కూడా అంతే అద్భుతంగా వస్తుందన్నారు. 'గౌతమ్ నంద' కథ చాలా బాగా వచ్చినా కూడా ఆ సినిమా పరాజయం తనకు షాక్ లా అనిపించిందన్నారు. గోపీచంద్ మలినేని దర్శకత్వంలో మరోసారి బాలయ్య సినిమాకు సంగీత దర్శకత్వం చేయబోతున్నట్టు తెలిపారు. దాంతోపాటూ బాబీ చిరంజీవి కాంబో సినిమాకు కూడా చేయబోతున్నట్టు తెలిపారు. ఆ సినిమాలో తెరపై చిరంజీవిని ఎలా చూడాలనుకుంటున్నామో అలా చూడబోతున్నామన్నారు. సంగీత దర్శకుడు దేవిశ్రీ ప్రసాద్ తో తనకు మంచి సంబంధాలున్నాయని, "దేవిశ్రీ ప్రసాద్ ఒక ఛాంపియన్" అన్నారు.
