The trailer of Ram-starrer Skanda, directed by the in-form Boyapati Sreenu, was unveiled at the pre-release thunder of the film held in Hyderabad on Saturday. Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna graced the event as the chief guest.
Playing over two minutes, the trailer introduces Ram as a rebellious student who believes in eliminating his opponents who stick their nose in his way. He arrives in Telangana dialect again after the super hit iSmart Shankar. There’s a lot of emphasis on blood-soaked action, dialogue-baazi and powerful villains, which are staple of Boyapati Sreenu’s films, in the trailer. “Debbathakithe sound Golconda daatala, shalti Shalibanda cherala (the sound of my hit should cross Golconda, while the body should reach Shalibanda),” is one of many authoritative one-liners in the trailer. While Boyapati doesn’t reveal much in terms of the plot, there’s a family angle to the story, with the hero– being extremely violent and hot-blooded–seeming to uphold family values. The trailer also gives a fleeting glimpse of other characters like Daggubati Raja, Gauthami, Indraja, Srikanth, Saiee Manjrekar and Prince. It ends with Ram, with a fully grown beard, twirled moustache and multiple scars on his face, embodying a typical Boyapati mass character mouthing–Puli yatakochindi (the tiger has arrived to hunt) – and killing his enemies mercilessly with one stab after the other.
Overall, the trailer filled with powerful one-liners reminiscent of Boyapati’s films promises a family-action drama laced with oora mass elements. The Boyapati touch is evident from the first shot to the last.
Produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi, Skanda opens in cinemas on September 15th in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam. It’s a Thaman musical.
