Supposed to have been released on Thursday morning, the trailer of Nikhil Siddhartha-starrer Spy was released later in the evening owing to technical difficulties. AAA Cinemas, Hyderabad hosted the launch event. Attaching the link on his Twitter handle, Nikhil wrote, “A cinema that we have made with Most Respect and Care #IndiasBestKeptSecret is about to unfold!”
Playing out over two minutes and four seconds, the trailer opens with Makrand Deshpande stating: “history will not tell us the truth; it hides it. We have to discover it”. It soon shifts attention to the most wanted terrorist Khadir (Nitin Mehta) who is shot at point blank range. He, however, surfaces again much to the dismay of powers that be in the Indian government. Deshpande sends a red alert to his team comprising Nikhil and Abhinav Gomatam to probably nab Khadir, who is a virus, and has a connection with missing Netaji files. Nikhil, besides setting his eyes on catching Khadir, has a personal mission: to know the killer behind his brother Subhas’ (played by Aryan Rajesh) death. The rest of the trailer focuses on how Nikhil tries his best to unravel India’s biggest secret while using his chasing skills, rifles and knives to the optimum use. All this transpires, while the team also battles a mole in their department. The trailer ends with a glimpse of Rana Daggubati, who says: “Freedom is not something one gives. We have to grab it. This is what Netaji said.” He has played a cameo in the film. Overall, the trailer is gripping, boasting rich production values and adrenaline-filled action, while Nikhil embodies a grave spy persona.
In the film, Iswarya Menon is paired opposite Nikhil. Produced by K Rajashekhar Reddy, who also wrote the story, Spy will be released in five languages – Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada– on June 29th. Renowned editor Garry BH is making his directorial debut with the project.
