The trailer of Nithiin-starrer Thammudu was unveiled at an event in Hyderabad on Wednesday and it hits the bull’s eye ticking all the boxes for a solid commercial entertainer with action and emotion in equal measure.
Spanning 2:37 minutes, the trailer opens with the voice-over (presumably of Varsha Bollamma) who says that Laya (Nithiin’s sister) is ready to give up her life than losing her character. Nithiin, on the other hand, says her sister couldn’t keep her word due to a mistake she committed. An archer, he has now got the opportunity to keep her word and he will do it come hell or high water. The scene now shifts to a tiny hamlet Ambaragodugu where majority of the action takes place. It’s a village where sinister forces are at play and Nithiin takes it upon himself to keep these forces at bay. This part of the trailer has some intense action pieces while Saurabh Sachdeva is introduced as the ominous villain. Writer-director Venu Sriram doesn’t give much of the story, while a character in the film warns of mass deaths in the village. However, for that to happen one has to cross Nithiin. The trailer harps on a lot on the ‘word given’. It concludes with an emotional scene of Laya and Nithiin face to face with the voice-over stating Laya can never accept him as his brother.
In conclusion, the trailer promises a world that feels personal, political and laden with high-stakes action while blending blood, arrows and big-screen bravado. The visuals add a layer to the storytelling while the village almost becomes a character itself. It’s obvious that Nithiin has slipped into a role that is far away from his comfort zone and he aces it. His journey, filled with guts, determination and a touch of rebellion, unfolds against a backdrop of rogue elements. Laya gets a minimal presence; we aren’t complaining as long as she got a meaty part. The dubbing for the parts played by Sapthami Gowda and Sachdeva is a major blip, while SVC production values are lavish. The background score by Ajaneesh Loknath amps up the stakes.
Also featuring Swasika, Hari Teja, Srikanth Iyyengar, Temper Vamshi and Chammak Chandra, Thammudu breezes into cinemas on July 4th.
#Thammudu’s banger is packed with intensity and emotion.
As the title suggests, the story revolves around an elder sister (played by Laya) and younger brother (Nithiin). The girl child (mena kodalu) plays a crucial role.
