What is Different Perspective?
We do have a tendency to get carried away by the success of a film and rarely look deep down into it to justify the ‘praises’ heaped on the film as well as on director. Should success blind our ‘thinking’ and shouldn’t we study its shortcomings as well. Agreed audience appreciation is all too important but will it not be a crime to overlook its flaws. This is just an attempt to pause for `moment’ and analyze the structuring of the `plot’ and how it would have been a notable effort if director had adhered to few rules of Filmmaking grammar.
It’s a “Different Perspective’ of popular films by a “Friendly Viewer’. |
Director Nidhi Prasad evokes enough laughs but he should have added at least one or two positive characters to balance the ‘mean’ and ‘self-fish’ villagers who resolve to bury all ‘human values’ to grab some money. In the present context, the theme is dark and repulsive for any human being who believes in human values. Agreed that it was a remake but still how Telugu director overlooked the ‘pessimistic’ view of the writer towards fellow human beings, remains a big surprise. It’s a known fact that human beings are fascinated with big letter “M’ but earning it in righteous manner is challenging and soul-fulfilling. To grab a few lacs every inhuman soul displayed its abundant ‘meanness’. Director leaves another loophole as the lottery agent handovers 1-crore cheque without an identity proof (which is a must ) and shockingly even ‘gift tax’ wasn’t deducted. Director relied on ‘lewd’ skin show than re-structuring the theme to make it a positive fun flick. Among all the characters, unfortunately the ‘dead’ man turns out to be a good human being with love for his kin and ethical enough to inform people who he owes some money. End justifies means, provided means is ethical. If you agree, check out.
Ticket vendor (Rajendraprasad) who urges his ‘wife’ to pray for villagers to win prize money in lottery since he would be happy with the ‘commission’ earned out of it. But actually he is a ‘cunning” man in the guise of a normal person. As soon as he comes to know about the ‘jackpot’ he is more interested in ‘grabbing’ the ticket from the owner than openly announcing the news to the villagers.
Ali’s brother (Brahmanandam) is truly ‘inhuman’ who is not even ‘shocked’ to know about his brother’s death. Rather he is worried about the prize money along with his wife and participates in all the ‘evil’ plans and even impersonates his dead kin.
Milkman (Bharani) hates his assistant (Rishi) but when the same guy becomes a partner in the ‘share’ of prize money he readily agrees to get his daughter married to him. (just few scenes before he agrees to marry his daughter to rich Venu). When he is doubtful of getting the ‘prize money’ he declines Rishi’s proposal and the next moment he says ‘yes’ when he is assured of money. No daughter should have such a ‘scrupulous’ father.
A lazy father (MS Narayana) is more interested in grabbing money and is ready to sacrifice the ‘love’ of his son. Not even for a ‘second’ he wants to explore other options.(After locking him in the room, he says ‘nuvvu naa pranam raa”, what does it mean-God only knows). While other villagers have no sympathies either for the ‘deadman’ or for the young ‘lovers’.
Initially, Rishi decides to ‘elope’ with his lover but probably he is also besotted with ‘money’ like other selfish villagers and doesn’t try to take her away even though she is forced to marry Venu. The girl (Farzana) is timid and knows only to ‘cry’ and finally attempts suicide. The final nail on the themetic coffin-when the villagers decide to marry Farzana to Venu even after her attempting suicide- taking their ‘selfishness’ to the peak. (thankfully we aren’t living in that village).
Director intended to evoke laughs but it should not be at the cost of humanism.
