Interview with Anushka
Date: January 22, 2009, Hyderabad
anuhka

Anushka’s latest film Arundhati is declared as a huge blockbuster. Currently riding high on the crest of success wave Anushka took a break from Billa shoot in Malaysia to fly down to Hyderabad for a couple of days. She watched Arundhati for twice and gave interviews to the media. Here is idlebrain.com exclusive interview of Anushka -

You watched Arundhati twice. What is your reaction to the film?
I am still in a daze. I don’t know how to take it. The movie is wonderful with crisp editing. There is pin-drop silence in the theatre and audience watched it with bated breath. After the movie is over, lots of women flocked to shake hands with me than men.

Which are your favorite scenes in the film?

1. Arundhati entering the dilapidated fort looking for Rahul.
2. The scene in which Anwar throws sword at Arundhati to prove that she is Jejemma.

There are lot of scenes in the film that gave me goose bumps. Re-recording is amazing and it took the movie to next level.

Which are the scenes that were challenging for you to perform?

1. Climax
2. Drum dance

I was not confident that I could pull off the climax of episode. I had inhibitions for the first couple of days. I gained confidence and got myself involved into the character from the third day onwards.

Shyam Prasad Reddy signed you by watching Super film?
It was my height and personality that impressed Shyam Prasad Reddy to sign me for Arundhati. Height and personality were the positive points of my character in the film.

What kind of impact did the film made on the crowds?
After watching the film, people forgot the actors and starting talking about the characters of Anwar, Pasupathi, Jejemma and Arundhati.

You saw the film in Sudarshan 35mm and Gokul? What difference did you notice among the response from the crowds?
It is same everywhere. They were shouting and whistling whenever Anwar (Sayaji Shinde) comes to rescue Arundhati. I was in the middle of crowds while watching in Sudardhan 35mm. I was sitting in a box while watching in Gokul. I was observing crowds from the top view. They were sitting like children in a classroom. They are not moving their head from the screen’s direction. It was like dolls sitting. Nobody was getting up and going even after the film was over. Everybody was riveted.

You were in Malaysia when film was released. What is the kind of feedback you got?
I got more than 200 sms messages congratulating me over the success of film. The feeling of acting in such a massive blockbuster is yet to sink in. When I spoke to Shyam Prasad Reddy over phone the next day, I could see smile in his voice. I had never seen him before giving such a big smile.

What is the biggest compliment you got for Arundhati?
The smile on Shyam Prasad Reddy’s face the best compliment.

Was it difficult to act with 12 kg worth ornaments for Jejemma character?
There are bruises all over my body for wearing such heavy jewelry. It hurts a little bit. But if we look back, all those bruises are like sweet memories.

What is the reaction of your parents for Arundhati?
They also watched the film twice along with me. My parents never speak to me about my films. While taking the flight back, my father hugged me and said ‘keep it up’. It was like a huge compliment from him. His words did not speak about it, but his hug told me about how happy he is for me doing Arundhati film.

Do you think you can repeat the magic of Arundhati again in your life?
Yes, only if I can do it again with exactly the same team. A film of Arundhati magnitude is only possible with the same team.

Tell us about other hardship you had gone through for Arundhati?
I had to wake up at 4 am and go to a place near Chilukur to learn horse riding. I can ride a horse now. Gajalakshmi is a notorious elephant. My heart would sink when Gajalakshmi gets bored and lifts her leg. I used to feed Gajalakshmi biscuits and fruits to pacify her. I also worked hard to learn classical dances from Shiva Shankar master.

Are you comfortable with sarees?
I am very fond of sarees. But I am not particularly fond of jewelry. I don’t wear jewelry. When I shown my photos in Jejemma get-up to my mother, she gave me a big smile as she always wanted me to wear lots of jewelry.

Tell us about your diet?
I do take balanced diet because it helps in stopping craving for food. I do cardio workout for 30-40 minutes everyday. And I drink lots of water. I take my last meal by 8 pm.

Any tips for good skin?
Cleanse, scrub and moisturize is what skin needs all the time. Drinking lot of water will help making your skin glow all the time.
