The title can hardly be attributed to the character portrayed
by the hero.
This senseless but main story lasts a couple of reels at the
end. Rest is all fun and frolic in the college campus. Even
the hero's father (Chandramohan) becomes target of stale jokes,
reflecting the bad taste with which the subject is written.
The hero's name is Ratna (Tarakaratna), a college going boy.
By the time he and his loud-mouthed friends, complete one
round of cheap jokes, Sandhya (Jivida), enters his life, as
the tenant in the house opposite.
Ratna befriends and falls in love with her. But all is not
so smooth as he realises that Sandhya is engaged to be married
to another man.
And unintentionally, he becomes the cause for her marriage
to be cancelled. Meanwhile Ratna's and Sandhya's parents aware
of Ratna's love, arrange for their marriage.
But once again, the wedding ceremonies come to a halt as Sandhya
refuses to go ahead as she blames Ratna for all her problems.
Now begins mission repentance, lot of drama before the story
drags to its happy ending.
Director Uppalapati Narayana Rao known for his imaginative
filmmaking lets us down this time, mainly due to bad story
and dialogue.
Added to this, the background score is highly imbalanced.
The sound devours the dialogue, especially in crucial parts.
There is a loud hum of a base string that makes things more
difficult.
Music composer Keeravani, known to have better musical sense,
appears to be out of step. Though he has certain amount of
ease, Tarakaratna has miles to go, before he can establish
himself as an accomplished actor.
One thing is sure. The script did not suit him. Jivida as
Sandhya looks lifeless throughout, except in the last couple
of scenes when she has to become aggressive.
