is proudly announcing a series of articles on the evolution
of Telugu movie theatres from 1921 to the current date. Mr.
Vijaya Bhaskar, an ardent fan of Telugu movies, provides
the content in these articles. We have chosen this time period,
as we believe this is a highly significant period in the history
of Telugu cinema. It was the period that saw the rising of
the first generation stars like NTR, ANR etc. Each article
will cover a theatre and the successful movies run information
and box office fate at those theatres.
Reminiscence
of Jaihind @ Vijayawada
One
of the old and prestigious theaters built in Vijayawada during
1940's is Jaihind. Started in 1940s, this theater has
more than half a century of history and Telugu film industry's
very popular films had a great run at this Jaihind theatre.
Four Years back, Jaihind was demolished and a new DTS Air
Cooled theater along with a commercial shopping complex by
the same name was constructed and Megastar Chiranjeevi's
Tagore is the first movie after reconstruction and had
100 days run as a second theater for Tagore in Vijayawada.
1. Legend
Dr NTR movies had a great run at this theatre. 13 movies
of NTR had 100 days run and unfortunately 2 of NTR movies
had missed 100 days run by 2 days. Those are Veerakankanam
and Bheeshma.
2. Living legend Dr A Nageswara Rao first Silver
Jubilee movie Balaraju (1948) ran for 245 days at
this prestigious theatre.
3. Super Star Krishna's trend setting and sensational
movies like Alluri Seetharamaraju, Ooriki Monagadu, Prajarajyam
and Dongalu Baboi Dongalu screened for 100 days at
this prestigious theatre.
4. Megastar
Chiranjeevi's "Punnami Nagu" missed 100 days
mark at this theatre by 2 days. Incidentally Punnami Nagu
movie won two Best actor awards for chiranjeevi(Filmfare
and filmfans).
