DAMMU - Blend of royalty and elegance

NTR
The entire wardrobe of NTR can be put in three words 'simple-casual-royal'. First, let me start with the 'simple' part. NTR Junior has always maintained a very earthy appeal no matter what outfit he tries. This is a mix of simplicity and elegance which makes the character more realistic and demanding for the whole movie. And NTR has completely justified the role in a simple attire. Casual - in the movie Tarak has been in complete casual wear without any designer wear or trendy outfits. He was sporting a two pockets shirt with flaps which is way simple and well suits his image and appeal. Royal - You may think why I haven't spoke about songs or maybe further, but Tarak was seen in a major part of the movie with a white shirt and black jeans n dark pants which actually appeals as a leader. Of course, he also showed the royal side like a warrior and a king for the song 'Ruler' which was much describing about the character. As for other songs like ‘Dammu’ ‘Vaastu Baagundi’, Tarak was sporting a rather colorful combination of jazzy shirts while the trousers were regular denims. The outfits were not very youthful but the colour combination has struck a chord with the mass audience. Unlike his films like ‘Brindaavanam’ or ‘Oosaravelli’ Tarak was seen in rather sober shades and it was his personality that spoke volumes than any jazzy costumes.

Trisha
Pretty, charming and bubbly is how Trisha was featured in the Ghagras she wore which are designed with various patterns and are used with different styles of draping. The introductory scene of Trisha had the trendy Punjabi Pyjama in dark lavender shade while her top had a gracious look. Even at the shopping mall scene, her outfit in shades of dark pink made her looks very pretty. Moreover the colours picked for Trisha are of darker shades which elevated her beauty due to the fairer complexion she possesses. She stood highlight in the second song in which she wore designer wear long gowns and also a blue peacock dress. Over all, she stole hearts of the audience with her new look in Ghaghras. This has given a traditional impact and in songs like ‘Vaastu Baagundi’ and ‘Dammu’ she wore the urban outfits which exhibited good sensuousness and class.

Karthika
Karthika was featured mostly in semi-sarees rather than Ghagras. She is attractive in the second half more than first half. In the song in the second half with four heroines, Karthika looked more beautiful. Her costumes are designed with heavy embroidery. This embroidery was nice in the perspective of fashion but has reduced the attractiveness when combined with the gaudy jewellery. She being slightly darker in complexion compared to Trisha would have been shown better in lighter blue shades rather than more pink shades. But overall, she was attractive with the new semi saree look. The fact that she has a very curvaceous body and a tall frame was not utilized correctly. If she was seen in Chiffon sarees in few instances, it would have added more glamour to her look.

Key Role Costumes
More consciousness is shown in the costumes of the main roles as is observed in the movie. The costumes of Suman and Nasser are fit to perfection to the roles they have played in a typical Khaddar shirt and pant along with the traditional lungi. Suman appearing in mostly white and white is elegant. The new presentation of Suman in climax is appreciable. He appears in a black jute dress with threads worn around his neck. He comes out of age long loneliness in darkness and the costume is apt to the situation. Nasser on the other side comes in a new look of ancient king wearing sleeveless cotton putty and dhoti along with a veil as used by kings. This costume gives a negative look to Nasser to exactly how his role was. Venu Thottempudi was dressed in short length Kurtas and he had used light shades for that which fit him well. The three sisters (Abhinaya and others) were rich in traditional sarees and they had that air of royalty.

Conclusion
The fashion perspective in the movie has taken a new dimension by using all ethnic ancient costumes for all the casting. NTR costumes have given a new bold look to him. The costumes of all the casting are well taken care of and presented in a whole new way. Of course, there are few mismatches. For instance, the scene where NTR is seen taking bath in the temple pond and the song ‘Vijayee Bhava…’ runs, if he had draped something like a bright red shawl with Red Dhoti instead of a regular banian and pant (like Balakrishna in Narasimha Naidu), impact would have been very strong. But given the voltage of the scene at that moment, not much notice went towards his appearance. Overall, the range of costumes used has been quite versatile which gave a elegant and stylish look to the film.
