TAGC (Telugu Association of Greater Chicago) organized the Makara Sankranti celebrations at Samarathi Auditorium, Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago (HTGC), Lemont on January, 14th 2006.

Over 800 people joined to celebrate the Sankranti function. Everybody enjoyed the special delicious Sankranti Dinner! (Andhra Gare, Sweets and etc) which was coordinated by the Treasurer Mr. Harindar Reddy, and Food Committee member Suneetha Pratap Reddy. The cultural program started with the President Mr. Radha Krishna Reddy's inaugural speech in which he talked about involving more youth in TAGC activities and upcoming events in 2006. His speech is followed by Devotional Song Ganesha Panchratnam by Sandhya Appalaneni and Desha Bhakti Geetam by Sandhya Vadrevu. Drama's, Movie Songs, Comedy, Mono-Actions, and Folk Songs were included in the program.

The Master of Ceremony was Telugu TV artist Mrs. Anitha Chowdary who entertained the audience. Youth committee members Archana Bokka, Shalini Vootkur, Priyanka Reddy, Shivani Reddy, Vishaal Reddy, Kartik Thalamarla, Vikaas Reddy, and Rakesh Marreddy actively involved in conducting various events of the day.

The best group performance winner was Bhakta Prahallada Dance Drama which was directed & choreographed by Subha Bolisetty. Best solo performance winner was Akhila Reddy (Chamma Chamma Song from China Gate.)

TAGC members enjoyed the variety of performances throughout the Sankranti function.

The young adults actively participated in great number; their dances brought back old memories to many of the elders. The elders appreciated their efforts very much.

Several prominent leaders of the Telugu Community attended the program. The Executive Committee urged the members to get involved more actively and come together for better future events.

At the end of the program, the secretary Mr. Chalma Reddy thanked the audience, the participants and their parents, volunteers, and the Youth Commit! tee members for doing such a wonderful job to make the event success. Mr. Chalma Reddy also thanked Mrs. Prasuna Vootkur and Mrs. Anitha Chowdary for organizing such a great cultural event.

Also the open floor for dance was a hit, all age’s members dancing together was a good site to watch. Many suggested making this as a regular event for all functions.
