theme of interracial marriage between a black man and a while woman.
Essentially, it is a simple tale about ordinary people, some white,
some back.

Barrie) has divorced Joe (Richard Mulligan), her white husband,
on the grounds of desertion. In order to support herself and her
little girl, Julie takes a job in a factory where she meets a Negro.
Frank (Bernie Hamiliton), Mutual admiration and compatibility evolve
into love and the couple decides to marry, mindful of possible problems
ahead. They go to live on a farm with Frank's parents. When Joe
returns and discovers that Julie's new husband is a Negro, he sues
for custody of his daughter. Then out of spite and racial resentment,
he attempts to seduce, unsuccessfully. Fearful of increasing the
odds against their custody case, Frank does nothing to redress this
grievance. "They won't let me be a man", he cries. Finally,
the court rules against the interracial couple, awarding the child
to her white father. The judge bases his decision on the presumptive
best interest of the in present day society.
The three Negro
roles in the emotion picture are done with integrity and sensitivity.
