Goes one of the scene in the best ever-Telugu movie made till date. In the above scene when you were reading the words Sri Krishna and Shakuni, whom did you visualise in your memory? If you said it were Nataratna Dr.NTR as Lord Sri Krishna and Sri CSR Anjaneyulu as Shakuni, then you probably echoed what millions of Telugu movie lovers would have, if they were asked the same question. In this episode of " Role and Actor - Made for each other" we will talk about these two roles and how they were portrayed to near perfection by these two highly talented actors.

Nataratna Dr.NTR: -

Considered one of the two eyes of Telugu film Industry, Dr. NTR portrayed the role of Sri Krishna in around 15 movies. He first acted in this role in the movie "iddaru pellalu", but the role went unnoticed in the movie. His second portrayal of the role in the movie "sonta vooru" did not convince the audience. It was in the year 1957, Vijaya Productions were planning a movie based on the epic Mahabharata. The directorial genius Sri K.V.Reddy gave NTR the role of Sri Krishna in that movie. NTR's charismatic personality, peaceful demeanor, walking style, mannerisms coupled with effective dialogue delivery gave life to the role. The movie turned out to be a superhit owing to a solid storyline, apt dialogues, good music, effective direction and stellar performances by all the artistes in the movie. The movie that is being referred to is the one and only "Mayabazaar".

NTR garu was flooded with mythological movies after this stupendous hit. He acted in this role in movies like Sri Krishna pandaveeyam, Sri Krishnarjuna yuddam, Sri Krishna tulabaram, Sri Krishna avataram, Sri Krishna vijayam, Dana veera shura karna to name a few. People used to flock to theatres just for seeing him in this role many many times. It is often heard that NTR garu never used to smoke, eat non-veg food after he wore the make up of Sri Krishna on the sets. Such was his dedication to this role. I guess it would not be an exaggeration to say that as long as Telugu movies are made and as long as Sri Krishna's role is being portrayed, people will remember NTR garu's contribution to the role first than anything else for many many years to come.

Shakuni: -

Dressed in black clothes, sporting a white beard, wearing a half-kireetam, rubbing dice in his hand often, limping slightly while walking, we notice a short guy around 50 years portraying the role of shakuni in many telugu movies to near perfection. The actor whom we are talking about is Sri C. Seetharamanjaneyulu often referred as C.S.R. Anjaneyulu.

Sri CSR Anjaneyulu performed the role of Shakuni not only in films but also in umpteen dramas. Sri CSR was very much appreciated for two of his distinct styles. His style of breaking the poem (padyam) into small bits so that it could be more effective to the audience along with his style of singing, break to speak a few words (vachanam) and then continue singing immediate drew huge applauses from the audience both in dramas and in films too.

Telugu movie land is very fortunate to have talented actors like these enriching Telugu movies with their ability to live in the roles that they portray. Idlebrain.com salutes these two actors for their outstanding contribution to our beloved Tollywood.
