Interview with Siddharth
Date: April 16, 2009, Hyderabad
siddharth

Siddharth is undeniably the new age lover boy and a class apart actor among the youth heroes we have in the Telugu film industry. He has got an amazing fan base consisting both women and youth. April 17 is his birthday. Idlebrain.com had an exclusive interview with Siddharth over telephone. Here are the excerpts -

How is the response to your latest release KIKK?
The movie lovers had Bommarillu as the yardstick before watching KIKK, hence the initial response was not so good. But it generated very good talk in the following weeks and it is doing extremely well at box office. It has completed 10 weeks in 90 centers and it is poised for 100 days in 75 centers. We are planning to celebrate 100 days by organizing a function in a big way.

Tell us about Oy!?
Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, Bommarillu and KIKK was a trilogy of family oriented movies from me. Oy! film is a pure classic love story. It is a romantic film. It is being directed by Anand Ranga. Prabhu Deva is my favorite debut director and Anand Ranga is my second best favorite debut director. He has tremendous spark.

Why do you prefer first time directors?
It is purely dependent on demand and supply factor. If you look at the top 5 Telugu films, all of them are heavy-duty action flicks. I am doing mostly soft love stories. Hence I have to depend on scripts rather than top directors. It works out that way to me. And new directors are good at doing class films compared to established big time directors.

Why are you not repeating your first time directors?
That is because all of them are becoming big after their first film. I am going to do a film in Prabhu Deva direction. It is going to be a straight Telugu film. It will be launched by the end of this year. May be I will repeat my first time directors after that movie.

You created quite a niche for yourself. And there is a fan base to you who watch your movies irrespective of the mouth talk it generated. How do you feel about it.
I am hugely grateful for the fans. I get lots of compliments about my Telugu diction and dialogue delivery. Initially I used to enjoy those compliments. But not anymore. Now I am interested to know about how I performed.

Tell us about Shamilee performance in Oy?
It was a very good experience to work with a national award winning actress like Shamilee. I would like to give more credit to the characterization done by Anand Ranga. The director has captured her character uniquely well. Audiences will travel with the character.

Tell us about the music of Oy?
I am excited to tell you that after doing the roles of actor, playback singer and associate director, I am donning a new hat as album producer with Oy. The concept of album producer is new in India. Album producer is the creative producer of the music album for a movie. My job is to work closely with the director and music director. I act as a creative umbrella for music. People like Quentin Tarantino did the job of album producer in the past. I want to take the extra responsibility of album producer.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is a genius. There are rumors that Yuvan only works well for certain directors. I found it to be entirely false. I am proud to work with Yuvan.

What are your future projects?
I am going to sign several films in Telugu now. You will see four releases in the next one and half years. There will be one movie from Siddharth for every six months from now. I want to act in Telugu films that would be accepted universally. Films like Bommarillu and Gamyam are remade in most of the other languages. I am interested in acting in such movies. I feel that Telugu audiences are the most intelligent audiences in India. They do accept all good films. As filmmakers, we should do better films and offer them more progressive movies.

My next four films will be directed by Prabhudeva, Rambabu (new director), Ram (a Tamil director) and Jayendra. Jayendra is my mentor and my godfather. He is an ad filmmaker by profession.

What about your plans to direct a movie?
I am busy with acting in films. Direction has to wait. I am learning as an actor now.

Your birthday is on 17 April. How old are you?
You can google it or read it in Wikipedia. There are urban legends about my age. I am as old as the character in my next film. Watch Oy and guess my age.

Do you want to say anything to idlebrain.com visitors?
Oy is my first pure love story. It is a classic love story. I am always excited about my fans. I would like to request all of them to discourage piracy and support the producers.
