Different Perspective - Samanyudu

What is Different Perspective?
We do have a tendency to get carried away by the success of a film and rarely look deep down into it to justify the ‘praises’ heaped on the film as well as on director. Should success blind our ‘thinking’ and shouldn’t we study its shortcomings as well. Agreed audience appreciation is all too important but will it not be a crime to overlook its flaws. This is just an attempt to pause for `moment’ and analyze the structuring of the `plot’ and how it would have been a notable effort if director had adhered to few rules of  Filmmaking grammar.

It’s a “Different Perspective’ of popular films by a “Friendly Viewer’.

Interestingly director Ravi.C.Kumar made his protagonist to reform the ‘antagonist’ than eliminating him but the transition of a ruthless politician into a good human is poorly established. Since evil minister makes all attempts to kill the protagonist and grab the evidence against him until the last moment but all-of-a-sudden turns into a good-hearted soul. It’s quite unconvincing because `reformation’ happens gradually and for a callous minister it would take more time to re-order his conditioned mind(just few words of his kid are not enough). Protagonist is a reluctant journalist who takes up the cudgels against ‘system’ but ends up reforming one minister; probably his job remains unfinished. Despite making big claims about exposing the corrupt minister, protagonist is unable to pin him down either in bank scam or in re-allotment of slum lands but had to rely on ‘one’ evidence against the minister for plotting to kill the CM. Unfortunately he doesn’t inform the CM about the evil plans of his sub-ordinates since it’s a must for any scribe to share such an important information to safe-guard the life of head of the state. Director’s disjoined screenplay fails to give proportionate footage to protagonist’s love track and exposing Archana as baddy’s mole doesn’t surprise many since it looks `fixed’. Director making an aged man to compare the minister who does few good works to save his job with Mahatma Gandhi is just outrageous.

Though director starts off on the right note that a scribe journalist should use his ‘pen’ to expose evil forces in society but gradually he looses his way. He makes his protagonist to even indulge in ‘blackmailing’ than making him to write a series of articles pointing the ‘needle of suspicion’ towards the cruel home minister and gradually strip him of his post. But its other way round- as the protagonist even goes to the extent of holding the ‘family’ of a thug of the minister to get information against minister. Director’s intention to `reform’ the minister is admirable but making him a ‘messiah’ (as gullible people pray for his ailing kid) will undo his humanistic approach. Director’s pre-occupation with one minister makes him overlook the evil ways of other ministers (who themselves throw allegations against each other) and it is like virtually giving them a clean chit. In his screenplay director could have properly balanced the professional (journalist) and personal life (his love) of his protagonist to make it more engrossing. A well-intended ‘theme’ could have been handled better with some good script work (hope director would agree with me now)

Initially Jagapati Babu is reluctant to stay back in India but all of sudden decides to re-launch his father’s newspaper. His first story should have been against the ‘minister’ (to avenge the death of his father who brought him up) but he exposes a bank chairman. Even in re-allotment of slum dwellers land he fails to pin down minister. Until he gets a recorded evidence of minister’s plotting against CM but he doesn’t publish it rather uses it to make minister spend his siphoned money to provide infrastructure for poor. Without analyzing minister’s evil intentions, Jagapati informs the minister that he can make AP “swarnaandhrapradesh’. An amateurish ‘assessment’ that could have spelt doom.

Hardhearted minister Saikumar whose name sends down shivers in the spine of one and all probably believes in rhetoric than action. With just `one’ evidence against him with Jagapati he becomes his puppet and spends all his money. But fortunately he wins people’s love and the blood-thirsting evil could have won another election and earned his money in various scrupulous ways (But he looks unnecessarily worried since Jagapati would have handed over the evidence to him if not for police commissioner’s unwarranted intrusion). He reformed, as director asked him to do so, than on his own barring few moments in the hospital.
