Story

Ramu (Nagarjuna) is an NRI doctor and he visits his hometown with his wife Seetha (Lavanya Tripathi). Their marriage is on rocks as Ramu is a busy doctor and Seetha feels that he doesn't love her as he is not spending time with her. Ramu’s mother Satyabhama (Ramya Krishna) is a widow. Her husband Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) dies around 30 years back in an accident. Rest of the story is how Bangarraju sets the family life of his son straight and how he settles a personal score.

Artists Performance

Actors: Nagarjuna Akkineni:Nagarjuna played two roles with a lot of variations. You can see stark difference in body language. Hence there is no confusion when Ramu is possessed by Bangarraju at times due to this stark variation in body language. You can see variation in those steps in ‘dikka dikka dum dum’ song between two characters. Nagarjuna’s steps are very good in Soggade title song.

Other actors:: Lavanya Tripathi looks fabulous as a wife who longs for affection of husband. Ramya Krishna is still glamorous at this age and she did extremely well. Anushka did a cameo as Bangarraju’s old flame. Anasuya looks impressive in her big screen debut. Hamsa Nandini and Diksha Panth are pretty glamorous. Nagababu did the role of Lord Yama. Nassar and Sampath Raj are alright. Brahmanandam partly entertains.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: The basic premise of the story has potential. It’s two pronged - one is setting the family straight and second is revenge. The movie starts off well and the two conflict points of the film are revealed within the first 15 minutes. Debutant director Kalyan Krishna comes up with a decent work. Screenplay of the film is predictable. Soggade Chinni Nayana is a film made by sticking to the story and without any deviation.

Other departments: Two songs (Dikka Dikka and Soggade) scored by Anup Rubens are good on screen. Background music is alright. Cinematography by PS Vinodh is good. Massy village dialogues written for Bangarraju character are good. Art direction by Ravinder is good. Editing by Praveen Pudi is fine. Production values by Annapurna Studios is good.

Analysis: Soggade Chinni Nayana is a family story with a fantasy element. Plus points are Nagarjuna’s terrific performance for two characters, Bangarraju’s entertainment and village backdrop. On the flipside, the screenplay should have been interesting. Bangarraju character, family orientation (though Bangarraju’s character is flirtatious) and sentiment might work in favor of Soggade Chinni Nayana.
