is proudly announcing a series of articles on the evolution
of Telugu movie theatres from 1921 to the current date. Mr.
Vijaya Bhaskar, an ardent fan of Telugu movies, provides
the content in these articles. We have chosen this time period,
as we believe this is a highly significant period in the history
of Telugu cinema. It was the period that saw the rising of
the first generation stars like NTR, ANR etc. Each article
will cover a theatre and the successful movies run information
and box office fate at those theatres.
Reminiscence
of Alankar @ Vijayawada
Alankar
is one of the best theaters as far as movie running are concerned.
The theater reputation and location used to enhance the running
of even a mediocre film to have a good run when compared to
other theaters. Started in January 1959, it remained inattentive
for one year, and exactly after one year, in January 1960,
started one of the greatest associations of hero-theaters,
i.e. ANR-Alankar. Starting in 1960, ANR has 17 100 days films
in this theater and 35 films were able to reach the coveted
50-day mark causing one of the highest success rates among
hero-theater combination. Even films of other heroes like
NTR, Shobhan Babu, and Krishna also had good performance in
this theater.
Alankar
holds the following unique records.
1. First
Eastman color film ever released in Telugu, Amara Shilpi
Jakkanna.
2. The first Eastman color social film "Tene manasulu"
also was released in Alankar only.
3. Alankar also holds the record of having the first film
to be housefuls for over 50 days (He-Man Shobhan's Soggadu
is the first ever film to be houseful for over 50 days in
Andhra Pradesh).
Due
to some unfortunate events during post-Ranga death riots in
1989, this theatre was destroyed and a new theater was constructed
with the same name. We will present the new ALANKAR theatre
list at a later point of time.
