What is Different Perspective?
We do have a tendency to get carried away by the success of a film and rarely look deep down into it to justify the ‘praises’ heaped on the film as well as on director. Should success blind our ‘thinking’ and shouldn’t we study its shortcomings as well. Agreed audience appreciation is all too important but will it not be a crime to overlook its flaws. This is just an attempt to pause for `moment’ and analyze the structuring of the `plot’ and how it would have been a notable effort if director had adhered to few rules of Filmmaking grammar.
It’s a “Different Perspective’ of popular films by a “Friendly Viewer’. |
Director Tarun Gopi could be cherishing his success but hasn’t he delivered a superfluous action flick sans a sensible plot. Even his screenplay is loaded with disjointed love track and unnecessary mystery around the protagonist. The `protagonist in disguise’ concept would be more suitable for a ‘larger-than-life’ person-for instance an upright cop whose life in danger or for a most-wanted-criminal but definitely not for a simple medical student. Actually he is a tough guy who can bash up few thugs but needlessly director projects him as a superhuman. He hides himself to concentrate on studies but ends up doing the same which his mother never-wanted-him to do (clashing with thugs). Another vague character in the film is the psychology student (Reema Sen) who is cynical about males but is hell-bent on chasing an unknown guy (can voice impress a girl) just because he saved her, raising doubts about her astuteness. But when she sees the protagonist she hugs him and to justify her boisterous behavior she claims to be probably in love with him. If they were two `different’ individuals what would have been her plight? Similarly even protagonist reveals his love for Reema `out-of-the-blue’ without showing even an hint of it till then. Regrettably, director etched the character of willy (Shriya Reddy) much better than both the educated ‘protagonists’ since she makes her intentions clear, though primitively. Director needs to hone up his writing skills since providence seldom struck twice.
Up and coming director Tarun should realize that success on the basis of a ‘good storyline” gives him a better footing than success out of a dismal plot. At least director should have made the protagonist to indulge in few more good deeds to earn him the wrath of evil forces than just relying on `one’ reason to make his ‘disguise’ significant and purposeful. He hinges on `avenging angle’ and ignores the love track to deliver a soulless actioner. Coming to heroine (Reema Sen) director should have made her to remember the guy who saved her from being disrobed at least one or two times to justify her love for him instead of making her to reveal it unexpectedly. With some in-depth script work, director could have nicely blended the love story with his action plot to make it more absorbing. Incongruously director’s comedy track with actor Vadivelu looks more logical than his lead characters.
Actor Vishal seems to be fascinated with this formula of `hiding his identity’ but he should have insisted on a strong ‘flashback’ episode to validate his struggle in the first part. Without displaying any such intentions before, he announces his love for Reema and it comes more as a ‘shock’ than a `pleasant surprise’. With this revelation did he intend to tease the ‘thug’ or he really meant it?. To prolong his new-found stardom he needs to pick valid action plots that substantiate `protagonist’s anger’ since nonsensical action films have almost become redundant.
Actress Reema Sen who is a psychology student boasts of interpreting the mindset of all the males but paradoxically she fails to read her own mind. On one hand she loves a person (who saved her from being disrobed in a town) and on the other she chases an unknown messiah. Was she probably uncertain about her ‘love’ between two tough guys or she possessed an `intuition’ that both are one and the same.
