Interview with Ram
Date: September 21, 2009, Hyderabad
ganesh

After creating box office sensation with Ready, the combination of Ram and Sravanthi Ravi Kishore is back. Their movie Ganesh (just ganesh) is all set to release on 24 September 2009 on the eve of Dasara. Idlebrain.com caught up with this energetic star Ram for an interview. Here are the excerpts -

Tell us how Ready changed your career?
I tasted the success with Devadas lately. It took a couple of weeks for Devadas film to consolidate at box office. It went on to become a big hit. The success of Ready was instant. It got unanimous hit talk on the day one. Ready was the main reason for me to do Ganesh movie. Kids in USA and India loved my performance as spider man in kids episode of Ready and they asked me when I was going to entertain them with a full-length kids movie.

Tell us about Ganesh?
After doing a mass masala movie like Maska, I didn't want to confine myself to mass movies. I didn't want to get into regular commercial pattern. We tried to get fresh feel for Ganesh movie. We selected first time director and a music director who never worked for any big commercial movie. We have 26 kids acting in Ganesh. Ganesh is basically a love story with kids backdrop.

You are extremely good with action sequences. What is the specialty about Ganesh fights?
I did a Chinese martial art called Nanchaku in Devadas movie. Bruce Lee used to do that fight in films like Fist of Fury. For Ganesh movie, I learnt a Japanese martial art called Sansetsukon. This martial art was used in The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. There is no bloodshed in this fight. This martial art was never used in any of Indian movies so far. I used it for the climax fight of Ganesh and it is going to be the highlight of the movie.

Tell us about Kajal Agarwal?
The main reason for casting Kajal Agarwal is the freshness. I feel that heroine's character is as much important as that of a hero in any love story. The chemistry has to work. We make a good pair together on screen.

Tell us about music?
We wanted to have fresh music and we roped in Micky J Meyer. When we met him for the first time he said that he is a fan of my energy. By the time of audio launch, I became a fan of him. He used to call up late mid-night to made me listen to tunes. He used to come to my place and we used to roam around the city listening to his music in the car. His music for Ganesh has melody as well as beat. I feel lucky to have such a nice music for all my movies.

How is it like working with 26 kids?
It was a lifetime experience working with so many kids. I learnt to become more patient after working with them. I got really emotional on 86th day when we wrapped the movie up. I ordered a big cake and a loads of chocolates for a surprise party to kids. One 6-year old girl came to me asked me if she was going to get chocolates and cake. I said yes. Then she asked me if she was going to get a tight hug from me. Such a gesture of love moved me. We were all emotionally bonded and it was such a tough thing to let go.

I would like to tell some interesting things about kids song in the movie. There is a lyric in that which says 'mountain full of maggie'. And we had to get 122 full packs of maggie, cook them and make a mountain of it.

Ileana, Kajal Agarwal and Hansika Motwani. The heroines worked with you seem to be going places?
I would give the credit of selecting good heroines to the director. We always select heroines who we think are apt and luckily it worked both ways.

You worked with various action choreographers. who is your favorite?
All of them are good. But I like Peter Hynes a lot because he is passionate and excited about his work all the time. I am also passionate and extremely excited with my work. I feel that we should get inspired by Hollywood films and world cinema. But we should not copy those fights. Peter Hynes gets inspired by Hollywood films, but he makes sure that there a signature of his own in the fights. He is also close to me at personal level.

Tell us about your uncle Sravanthi Ravi Kishore?
Sravanthi Ravi Kishore is the backbone of Ram's career. Home banner is very important for any hero. I am sure that Sravanthi movies will help me when I am in low phase. I am fortunate to have such a passionate producer as my uncle.

Your father is extremely passionate about movies. What is his contribution?
My father is the main support for me to get into movies. It is very hard for any parents when their 9-year old son expresses his wish to become a film hero. But my father believed in me and took my words seriously. He was with me for every little step I took towards achieving my goal. He made me what I am today. And all my first steps turned out to be golden steps. Initially I didn't want to become hero with the help of my family members. I wanted to become hero independently in Tamil without any support. In fact, I was offered a film with Oscar Ravi Chandran. Later on I was to do the male lead in Kadhal (Premiste in Telugu) (read more about in our first interview).

Tell us about the title of your next movie Rama Rama Krishna Krishna?
It is actually Rama Rama Krishna Krishna. I am playing the role of a guy called Rama Krishna. Rama in his name represents good-heartedness and one-girl attitude. Krishna in his name represents cunningness and flirtatious nature. There are two shades to his character. I do the role of a guy from well-to-do family in a village. This is my first movie with village backdrop.

I am a kind of guy who get bored too soon. It helps me in my career planning because I will end up doing roles of various shades.

What happened to your film 'Rey' in YVS Chowdary's direction?
It's still on. It will happen in near future.

How many movies do you plan to have in an year?
I am planning for two movies every year. I had Maska for Sankranthi and my Ganesh will release for Dasara. I am planning to come with Rama Rama Krishna Krishna for next Sankranthi.

Are you open for parallel/off-beat cinema?
Jagadam, though made on huge budget is close to my heart. I love to do off-beat movies. I am looking forward to such scripts as well.

Poster designer Krishna tells me that you take keen interest in poster designing?
It is always taxing to work on sets and I need a bit of relief. I always refresh myself by doing creative things after a hard days work. Poster and publicity designing fascinates me.

How can fans get in touch with you?
Few people are creating fake profiles in facebook and orkut on my name. I would like to clarity to everybody that I don't have any facebook/orkut profile. Fans who want to get in touch with me can login to heroram.com and send email from there.
