Different Perspective - Khatarnak

What is Different Perspective?
We do have a tendency to get carried away by the success of a film and rarely look deep down into it to justify the ‘praises’ heaped on the film as well as on director. Should success blind our ‘thinking’ and shouldn’t we study its shortcomings as well. Agreed audience appreciation is all too important but will it not be a crime to overlook its flaws. This is just an attempt to pause for `moment’ and analyze the structuring of the `plot’ and how it would have been a notable effort if director had adhered to few rules of  Filmmaking grammar.

It’s a “Different Perspective’ of popular films by a “Friendly Viewer’.

Director Amma Rajsekar’s mindless film loaded with bawdy dialogues and raunchy numbers could go down as one of the most `regressive’ Telugu films in recent times. His lewd thoughts are running contrary to the tastes of new generation audience(probably he should have been making films few decades ago). Albeit slowly, Telugu cinema is surging ahead thematically and technologically but few directors like him are hell-bent on reversing the progressive trend. When thugs force a good-for-nothing Ravi Teja to join 10th class in school he shouts at them-mee ke manna mentalla. Was he indirectly posing this query to audience who turned up to watch this absurd film? Jokes apart, if the director was serious about his plot of planting a ‘mole’ then he should have at least chosen a intelligent and tactful guy than a brain-less street-smart guy (since passing on police information without being detected is not a child ‘s play). Director also makes mockery of police system by promoting a traffic constable into a crime branch inspector just for nabbing a petty drug peddler and a most idiotic killer. Sadly, Ileana would be cursing herself for doing such a pathetic role which makes a derision of noble teaching profession and her skin show leaves nothing for imagination. Director was even confused about the reason for middle-aged protagonist (a girl student calls him uncle) to re-join school. First he agrees to avoid being arrested in a foisted murder case and later shifts to his love for a teacher. If director believes that he can survive by lifting plot and scenes from various hit films, then he should be definitely day-dreaming.

Director who showed traces of vulgarity in “Ranam” goes overboard this time to annoy sensible viewers. If he is under the impression that lewd scenes and dialogues can substitute for a valid plot then he should by now realized its futility. Agreed that he was inspired by a Hollywood flick for his ‘plot’ but the real challenge lies in making it believable with his narration but he fails in it miserably. Barring a contrived reference, director was unable to justify the selection of a foolish guy to play the crucial role of a mole. How police overlooked the criminal record of his parent, a jail bird, remains a big surprise. Even the evolution of an unfaithful cop (he is bound to be severely punished for leaking important information) into an upright cop lacks credibility. Director tries to fuse a love story between a `sadak’ chaap and an educated teacher but it is quite unconvincing. At least director should have worked hard on her change of attitude towards a `stalker’ more realistic and believable then just rounding it up in one scene (lawyer explaining protagonist’s interest). Instead of filling these gaping holes in the basic storyline while fine-tuning it, director probably wasted time in digging out double-entendres and in visualizing raunchy numbers.

Ravi Teja’s character isn’t properly defined. He is established as a fear-less guy but all-of-sudden becomes timid and follows the instructions of a dreadful lawyer to shamelessly re-join school. Either of these two reasons would have been bit valid- his interest in studies or fascination for police job. But re-joining to avoid being booked in an illogical murder case lacks meat and also love was purely incidental. Did he reform because the person he shot was the sibling of his lover?

Illeana, the flavor of the season, plays a teacher who is unfortunately forced to fall in love with a ‘rogue’ just because director asked her to do so. She hates him from word go and she even informs him that there is not even ‘one’ reason to love him. Furthermore his cheap antics enhance her dislike and even her brother’s death doesn’t deter her from reciprocating (love is blind, I agree)
