Interview with Saloni
Date: Junly 22, 2010, Hyderabad
saloni

Saloni made her debut in Telugu with Sumanth’s Dhana 51 film in 2005. Though she did female lead in 5 Telugu films in the past, none of them worked at box office. However, her guest role in Magadheera movie caught the attention of Rajamouli and he cast her as heroine in Maryada Ramanna. Saloni talks about her second innings in an exclusive interview with idlebrain.com -

Background:
My father is a retired assistant commissioner of narcotics. I always wanted to become an actress. Mom supported me where as my father wanted me to do a respectable job. I got my portfolio done without the knowledge of my father and sent it across to model coordinators. I was featured any many Tv commercials like Cadbury, Move, Alukka Jewelry, Nirma etc. I had also worked with a theatre group called Kala Sansad. I got trained in Ashok Kumar Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Were you disappointed when your films didn’t do well in the past?
My first Telugu film Dhana 51 went unnoticed. My second movie Oka Voorilo was also a flop. I did six films in Telugu, 3 films each in Kannada and Hindi and one film in Tamil. I had no regrets that my previous films didn’t do well in Telugu. Buddhimantha - my Kannada film with Upendra went onto become a big blockbuster.

I did a small role in Magadheera movie. He offered Maryada Ramanna film after observing my work in Magadheera.

Tell us about your character in Maryada Ramanna?
I am doing the role of Aparna who studies in city. She meets Ramu while returning to her big joint family in the village. Her family is known for the hospitality.

About your experience working for Maryada Ramanna?
SS Rajamouli is like an actor. He enacts each and every scene with minute expressions and explains nuances. It is very easy for any actor to follow him. He creates a healthy atmosphere and gives lot of comfort for actors. The presence of Rama Rajamouli (styling) and Sri Valli (publicity & music) also helped me.

How is it like working with Sunil?
I worked with Sunil in Oka Oorilo and Chukkallo Chandrudu in the past. I watched his Andala Ramudu in a public theatre and loved it. Sunil is a cool gentleman. Both of us are lucky to work with a celebrated director like SS Rajamouli.

What are your hobbies?
I would love to mingle with crowds. I like clubbing, watching matches in sports bar and watching movies in public theatres.

What kind of movies do you like?
I like all comedy flicks irrespective how good/bad they are. My favourite TV channel is Pogo and I am a fan of ‘Noddy’ character.

What is your dream role?
I want to do two characters in the same movie like Seeta Geeta and Chal Baaz. Sridevi and Soundarya are my idols.
