Chandra Siddhardh who directed award winning Aa Naluguru is directing another film Idi Sangathi that deals with the ‘money - human relationships’ aspect. But this time he chose a fast paced narration and humor orientation. Idlebrain.com caught with Chandra Siddhardha for an exclusive interview. Here are the excerpts -
Why did you turn into production?
Idi Sangathi is not a typical commercial format film. Regular producers would hesitate to make a such film. Though it is not a formula film, I see a lot of commercial viability in Idi Sangati film. I can make a good different film, but I am bad at convincing producers with these kinds of scripts. My friends are funding this project and they have enormous confidence in the film.
Why did you choose to title your film as ‘Idi Sangati’?
I got inspired by the title of Eenadu cartoons. Cartoonist Sridhar draws his cartoons under the column ‘Idi Sangathi’. Like those cartoons, my film Idi Sangathi too is a satire on society. The entire film is made in lighter vein way.
What is the story of Idi Sangathi?
Senior journalist Pathanjali wrote a serial titled ’Mera Bharat Mahan’ in a newspaper. It was republished as paperback novel with the title ’Nuvve Kaadu’. I bought the rights of that novel. This film talks about greediness and corruption in our lives. It is a humorous take on greed and corruption. But this film is not aimed at any individual or organization.
What made Tabu sign this film after superb flicks like Namesake and Cheeni Kum?
The script motivated her to sign this film. She felt that there is a lot of scope for emotion all types of emotions in this character of ‘Swarajya Lakshmi’. she plays the role of a middle class housewife who is confined to home though she is intelligent and educated.
Tell us about Abbas and Raja?
Abbas is doing the role of Tabu’s husband. He is a journalist. Raja plays an interesting character of an actor whose first film as hero is stalled in between. He has a key role and he gives major twist to the film. He also has a song with three heroines - Sameeksha, Anita and Arti Puri.
Your last two films (Madhu Masam & Idi Sangathi) were based on novel?
It was just a coincidence.
What is the reason behind naming your home banner as ‘Filmostav’?
Generally people name they banners as ‘XYZ films’. I felt that the film should come first in the banner. That is why I named it as Filmostav. In Mumbai, there are studios named like Filmalaya and Filmistan.
What are going to be the highlights of Idi Sangathi?
1. The characterization of Swarajyalakshmi and performance of Tabu.
2. There are four good songs. John P Warkeys who did background score for documentaries and short films at Pune film institute is composing music.
3. JK Gummadi’s camerawork. I will speak about camera work after the film’s release.
4. The dialogues written by Pathanjali.
What is the runtime of the film?
We shot the film in 50 working days. And the film’s runtime is going to be 2:15 hours (3700 meters).
How do you compare Aa Naluguru and Idi Sangathi?
Idi Sangathi is the flipside of Aa Naluguru. Both these films talk about the role of money in human relationships. Idi Sangathi will be in fast tempo and in lighter vein unlike Aa Naluguru.
A few stills released to press show Tabu in exposing mode?
We did not feel that way when we released the stills. But the movie lovers found them to be sexy. There is a scene in film where Tabu fakes to her neighbors about her making love with hubby with jewelry on. Those stills belong to that shot.
Why do you cast Raja in all your films?
Raja is one actor who does not mind doing all kinds of roles. He is also a good friend of me.
How is the business of the film?
My friends who funded the film are so confident that they don’t want to sell it. We are going to release the film on our own through Suresh Movie distributors and Pyramid Saimira. We have not sold the satellite rights though we got an offer for 1.4 crores.
When are you planning to release Idi Sangathi?
The music will be launched in a couple of days. We are going to release the film on 22nd of February.
