Interview with Madhura Sreedhar Reddy
Date: Junly 15, 2010, Hyderabad
sreedhar reddy madhura

Sreedhar Reddy who has good education from REC and IIT worked in top software companies like TCS, Wipro and Infosys before moving into film industry to launch Madhura music company. Sridhar is making his debut with Sneha Geetam movie which is going to release on 16 July. Here are the excerpts of the exclusive interview -

Background:
I wanted to become a film director since the time I was studying my 6th class. My parents wanted me to go in the regular way. I completed engineering in REC, Warangal. I joined IIT, Madras to do MS. I got gold medal from vice president of India. Then I joined TCS followed by Wipro and Infosys. Ram Gopal Varma had been my biggest inspiration to become a director. He started off with a video shop become becoming a director. I started music label company Madhura and bought/distributed music of many movies. I also took over a film magazine called Cinestar. Madhura music and cinestar magazine helped me in getting acquainted with the functioning of film industry. I forged my relationship with media and press as well.

Tell us about your debut movie Sneha Geetam?
Story of Sneha Geetam explores friendship, love and career aspects of college students. I have divided the thought process of students into three buckets (friendship, love and career). It is a story of three boys and their travel from 20 years old to 25 years old. One guy wants to have comfortable lifestyle. Another guy wants to be an entrepreneur. The third guy wants to follow his heart.

Sneha Geetam is a movie with straight forward narration. It is an honest and simple movie with no complications.

Is it difficult to direct a movie without any practical experience?
As a guy worked in software companies, I find the filmmaking process similar to that of project management. As a project manager we need to get our work done by teams of various expertise levels. Direction is like project management. Filmmaking has correlation towards SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).

Sneha Geetam film was launched long back. Why did it take 2 years to release?
That is because I had creative and professional differences with the producer Lagadapati Sridhar. We sat together and sorted them out. Our professional differences helped for the betterment of the movie. It is an advantage to work with producer Lagadapati Sridhar because he knows a-z of filmmaking. He is very good at promoting the movie. We continue to be good friends despite of professional differences because he is an amazingly nice human being.

Tell us about the music?
Music director Sunil Kashyap came up with very good music. 12% of the downloaded caller tunes of recently launched mobile operator MTS was from Sneha Geetam music. Sneha Geetam album is in top 10 list of Music World and Planet M for the past six months. This is the testament for the popularity of Sneha Geetam music.

Tell us about the release of Sneha Geetam?
We are releasing the movie with 35 prints. This film was shot in 52 working days. The total runtime of the movie is 2:14 hours. Sneha Geetam obtained a clean ‘U’ certificate.

How do you like the career shift from software industry to film industry?
I am having the same feeling as a fresher when I joined my first job.

Tell us about your next movie Om Mangalam Mangalam?
Om Mangalam Mangalam is a romantic comedy set in the backdrop of corporate world. It is a small budgeted movie. I love the sound of Om Mangalam Mangalam in Kambakht Ishq movie. This film will be launched after the release of Sneha Geetam.

Why are you doing small-budget movie again after struggling with your first movie?
When a big hero film is made the risk proposition is 8 crores. When a small movie is made the risk proposition is 50 lacs. The risk factor is same for big or small movie. We can contain the budget if we start working on marketing of the movie right during the script level.
