Seenu Vytla comes under the rare breed of directors, who speak less, but make others talkative about them. This phenomenon is made possible just because of one thing in particular. That is his incredible comedy sense. Take his Venky and Dhee, which have come to register impeccable comedy timing. It brought a new lease of life to Tollywood comedy altogether. With two successive hits (Dhee and Dubai Seenu) in his kitty, Seenu Vytla eagerly awaits the commercial result of his latest film Ready (starring Ram & Genelia). The film is hitting the marquee on June 19th with 165 prints. Idlebrain.com caught up with Seenu Vytla for a quick interview. He is delighted at the way how the film had shaped itself, after watching the preview at Prasad Labs. Here are the excerpts:
Tell us about Ready?
We worked over nine months for Ready. It is essentially a love story with the backdrop of college, urban and rural family, road journey and forest. The story takes place in a span of 3 months. This film flashes through action, entertainment and romance and has the stamina to impress the universal audience.
How did Ready happen?
Dhee and Dubai Seenu films are more like action entertainers. I wanted to do a love story like Anandam with a DDLJ kind of good family values. I loved the subject when writer Gopi Mohan narrated me the first half of the film. I told him that most of my films were suffering with not-so-good second half syndrome. I told that him that we would not start the project unless the second half is properly worked on. Then he brought a new perspective to the second half and it was exciting. Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan suggested that I should do this script with a big hero. Dubai Seenu was such a combination proposal king of a film which was done in a hurry. I wanted an apt actor for this subject instead of a big hero. And I had Ram in my mind. I suggested his name to them. At that same time, Sravanthi Ravi Kishore offered to produce a film with me. I told Sravanthi Ravi Kishore that our kind of filmmaking would come with a contrast and that I wanted the film to be done in my way and with my team. He gladly accepted. He also gave us complete freedom. I could convert the script into a celluloid bonanza.
What are your favorite songs in Ready?
We worked really hard to arrive at this music and it is being greatly appreciated by the music lovers. My personal favorites are Ninne Pelladatha (song before climax) and Meri Sajana (song before interval). Get Ready song has terrific steps by Ram.
How is Ram?
It is very comfortable to work with Ram. He is a mine of energy. He did mass characters in Devadas and Jagadam. The character in Ready is entirely different from his previous roles. He is doing the role of a good boy with positive attitude in Ready. I always believe that it is the entertainment and comedy aspect that added little more ammunition to stars like Chiranjeevi and Rajnikant. We tried that angle on Ram in this film. Ram is also very sincere and committed to his work.
How different is Genelia in this film compared to Dhee?
Her character in Dhee is more like a passive one. In Ready, the entire story revolves around hero making heroine realize her dreams. Genelia has immense scope for performance in this film.
Tell us about the character of Brahmanandam in Ready?
Brahmanandam does the roles of an auditor called 'McDowells Murthy'. He joins the film after the first reel post the interval. And his role is intertwined with the story line. He is going to be a cool entertainer in the second half.
What is the runtime of the film and how many days you shot it?
The runtime came out to be 2 hours and 45 minutes. We shot the film for 115 working days. Incidentally, Ready is the film that took most number of working days of all my films. It is due to the huge casting involving various character artists and comedians.
You just came after watching the preview?
Yes. I am very confident about the success of the film. This movie offers more entertainment than Dhee. The second half of the film is going to be the highlight.
Tell us about your next film King with Nagarjuna?
King is the tentative title. We shot the film for 8 days so far. Trisha is doing the female lead. King will be released on 18 December.
Is it going to be a comedy?
Yes. King will be a mass comedy entertainer. Nagarjuna has tremendous sense of comedy timing which is evident in films like Allari Alludu, Hello Brother etc. Nagarjuna will be playing a hilarious character after a long gap. My usual team is working for King film. Macha Seenu (dialogue writer of Parugu) is an addition. Devi Sri Prasad composes music. It is too early to reveal any more details at this stage.
