Review

Story
Karthik (Sharwanand) is from a village and is very fond of his village and his father (Rao Ramesh). Ekambaram (Sai Kumar) - the landlord has an agenda to own all agricultural lands in the village. He finances farmers with heavy interest rates and buys those lands when they eventually fail to repay. After looking at the troubles his father and other farmers are going through, Karthik decides to resign to his lucrative software job and starts farming. He gets all the affected farmers together, starts crowd farming and creates a supply chain for their produce in the market. Rest of the story is about how he becomes successful and wins the confidence of everybody.

Artists Performance

Sharwanand is one of the finest actors of Telugu cinema at present. He is the perfect choice for the role of a good samaritan. He looks very handsome in formal dress. His expressions, body language and dialogue delivery are very natural. However, his dubbing has suffered a bit (probably due to cold). Actress Priyanka Mohan is good. Rao Ramesh is excellent as a father who is torn between his love for son and the bitter experiences he had in farming. Sai Kumar succeeds in showing villainy well. It’s a simple role for Murali Sharma. Sapthgiri and Satya provide some comic relief.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film has a noble premise of the farming. It deals with a deep crisis that our country is facing. Director Kishor B has taken this ideal subject and made sure that the reality in villages is brought out. The emotions are handled well, thanks to good performances by the actors. However, the romantic thread between the lead pair is not good. The heroine going after the hero by literally begging him to love her doesn’t go well with content driven films like these. First half of the film is decent as it sets up the platform for the concept of farming. Second half has some issues (the internal rift among the farmer's group, conflict inside the family of the hero etc). The emotions didn’t translate well in the second half. It’s nice to see that the covid aspect is included in the film to make it look more recent. Shooting of the film was started in 2019 and a part of the second half is changed to include covid scenario.

Other departments: Music by Mickey J Meyer is a big asset. Bhalegundi Baala folk song is very catchy. Title song of the film which is used as a montage song is very good. The pathos song which is used as a background song in both halves of the film is excellent. Sandalle song is pleasant. Cinematography by J Yuvaraj is very good. The main asset of the film are the dialogues by Sai Madhav Burra. There are several heartwarming dialogues about farming and villages. Production design by Avinash Kolla is good. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is neat. Producers Ram Achanta and Gopichand Achanta have a good taste at producing films. Producing a movie with the subject of farming is a risky proposition and they have done it uncompromisingly.

Analysis: Sreekaram is a film made with noble intentions. The director/producers made sure there is no distraction/commercialization while narrating the core subject of group farming. First half of the film is decent. There are certain issues with the second half. Plus points of the film are Farming concept, Sharwanand, Rao Ramesh and music. Minus points are slow narration and not-so-effective second half. On the whole, Sreekaram is packaged as a family film and it explores a relevant issue of farming. We need to wait and see how family crowds are going to embrace it.
